Troubleshooting my temp problem, I noticed my fans don't come on until the temp guage reads just above N. That doesn't seem quite right. Am I suffering from a bad temp sensor (which is new), or is it possible that the gauge is reading off? I read elsewhere that most fans come on around O.

I've already ordered the new radiator, but it seems the fan issue has alot to do with it.

Thanks
Don

If the fans are coming on, then the ECT is functioning. It is not an issue of accuracy with the ECT. It either works or it does not.

Unless you get a real gauge on the cooling system to monitor coolant temps, I have to assume that either the sender for the dash gauge is faulty, or the gauge itself is. No matter though, because unless you get a real reading (in degrees, not on the N-O-R-M-A-L scale) And find that it is running hot (or cold) , you must assume that everything is just fine.

I replaced both sensors.

Should I check the temp at the t-stat neck?

Is the sender for the stock gauge replaceable? Where is it?

Thanks

If you replaced both senders, then you replaced both the ECT as well as the sender for the stock dash gauge.

Did this car run at the same temp before the new gauge sender?

Yes, check the temp at the gauge temp location. If it is going to be temporary just to diagnose this issue (if you have one) then Id suggest an electric gauge.

The senders for the electric gauges do not require additonal fittings to plumb into the location that the stock sender uses. Mechanical senders are too deep, and you must fool around with more fittings to get it to fit.

Do you have part numbers forthe sender and sensor you installed?

The ECT and Temp switch bot came from Ford. I'm not sure on the #'s. I've already tossed the boxes. I'll get an electric gauge and wire it in for testing.
