Hi Folks, new on here and its awsome!! I have a question on my 93 mtx. When I bought the car it had no radio so I bought a Sony and installed it, I by-passed the factory amps and it sounds ok for now (JBL), my question. I cut the wires on the factory sub and tried to connect it to see if it would work but it will not, I did the 9 volt battery test and I heard it move but it still no sound from it when I tried to connect it. Any ideas? :thankyou:

When you cut the wires from the sub I am assuming that you cut the 2 black speaker wires from it. Where did you connect those wires to? I have never herd of a speaker not working. It should blown or not. Did you connect the sub speaker wires to the speakers in the rear deck? Hope I made some sense here.

Yes, one solid black and the other black with white, coming out of the sub, tried on both sides of the rear speakers and nothing, I have never heard of a speaker just not working, like you said, blown or good.

Iam not sure if this makes a diff or not but the SHO's have 4 wires comming out of each speaker. could it be that maybe you hooked it up to the wrong wires? Im not sure if all if all four wires send a signal to the speakers or not. How did you connect the sub wires to the deck speakers? Did you unplug the rear deck speaker and put the wires from the sub into the speaker plug? This is really puzzling me. You could just say the **** with it and get an amp and a sub.

My car didn't have a sub in it when it bought it so i got one from a member on here hooked it up and nothing so i opened the sub box and found one of the wires that connect to the sub its self was disconnected plugged it back on and sealed the box up now i have a working sub, you might want to see if that could be your problem.

Maybe a stupid question but....You are just hooking the sub directly up to the rear speakers? Have you actually tried the sub on a home stereo? Just hook it up to see if it works, I have had a few subs that'll do the first "movement" but die out after that, and ended up being a cracked magnet and it shorted out so it actually ruined the amp it was hooked to after not disconnecting the sub for a few weeks.

Also which harness are you using, the factory to the back of the deck, or the amp delete one?

I only saw 2 on the left side as you look into the trunk, they are coming out of the sub box itself.I just "jumped" the wires for a test. I could go with a sub and box, i just wish i could figure this one out.

Im going to try on my home stereo, the factory amp is burnt out also, I used the harness on the back of the deck, the sub has no other wires going to it. Im going to take it out today and get a better look.

When you say it's in 2 pieces, do you mean the surround has come apart or maybe the magnets fallen off? The surround foam on mine rotted off. I ended up refoaming it and it's played perfectly for the last 4 or 5 years.

The foam around the sub is gone, all gone, I think some one yanked it out or some thing. There is no trace of it any where, no rat droppings so thats out. Just WEIRD

The foam disintegrated on mine also. I got a new foam surround from simplyspeakers out of FL. I can't remember if they refoamed it or I did as I've used them several times. That was 4 or 5 years ago and it's still working fine.

A lot of people use the 8" elemental designs sub. I was able fit an 8" memphis sub into the factory box with a little modification too.

Problem fixes Gents, bought a Kicker 6 1/2. Fit perfect, used a small 300 watt amp and sounds great!!
