Hey all.. it's been a LONG time since I posted here... but I have a qeustion... Recently... (last few months or so) I have noticed my gas gauge constantly moving.... it almost never stays still.... It will fluxuate a quarter of a tank while driving.... i mean I nkow as you drive, the car consumes gas, and when you live in central PA, you're either going up or down... and the gauge is always moving.. it will eventually find a spot and stay but then I go up a hill and it drops, and down and it increases... i mean i know I sound stupid by asking a question as ******** as this..but I think it seems to move TOO much.. i drive the other cars, and the gage barely moves on a hill or what not... any thoughts? do these wear out? is there resistance on teh float that allows a steady reading or something? I know i'm bascially asking a question similiar to "why does the car go faster if I push the pedal farther"... but i'm kinda annoyed with this gas gauge... i find i'm lookin at it more than the speedo or temp.. or even the road... cause it makes me think the car is getting bad milage... which i'm fighting that one too.. i think my t.stat is stuck open... i've been reading the forums... that's why i'm quiet... :) Thanks for your help in advance!

There is an electronics module, called a "slosh module" in the instrument panel someplace. It's purpose is to dampen the gas gauge needle movements. Or, maybe the sender is just getting corroded/worn.The sender is just a wire wound resistor inside the tank. A wiper attached to the float moves along it to produce different voltage readings.
