Someone feel like giving me a lesson?

I have noticed a couple of different exhaust systems for the SHO out there, CORSA, NESHO, Livernois etc...

Some are three mufflers, some are x-pipes etc...

Whats the difference?

I'd like to get a real deep sounding exhaust system for the SHO, one that will purrrrrrr like a big kitten.

Thanks
Todd

Todd,

This ones a little tough because I think exhaust sound is so personal. I would say listen to all of them and make your choice based on that. You can hear the Corsa on Livernois Motorsports website under Videos. That's my car and Corsa was my choice. I heard Kirks (NESHO) at the convention and it was a little louder than mine but also had a considerable drone. I haven't heard the Borla yet.

Understand though that it it is a 6 cylinder so don't expect the really deep V8 sound.

Performance wise...I doubt there's much difference in any of them.

Hope that helped at least a little bit

Every vehicle type responds differently. I have a pair of Magnaflows on an otherwise stock system on my EB Brick. Purrs at idle but is never loud or even noticeable at above 30 mph. Getting rid of my center muffler & cat, and replacing them with an x-pipe is next project. Am going to make this section replaceable with stock section (using flanges) in case I want to go back to what I have now.

In general, x-pipe helps the top end, while an h-pipe improves low end performance. It also is more throaty.

In my 2 G8 Gt's, I have one of each. Car with h-pipe is louder most of the time, except at cruising speeds, where the noise frequency is less noticeable than the x pipe at the same speeds. Go figure.....

Here is the video of the Corsa system on Darrell's car. We also have this system on our shop car.

I started by removing the center (forward) muffler/resonator and have noticed no change whatsoever in sound or performance. My plan is to replace the stock mufflers with something like Bob did to his brick. There are issues with removing the 3rd cat...it's certainly out of the question here in CA but it's also a Federal issue to remove a cat. The risk factor varies from state to state but keep that in mind. Also, the third cat provides a common resonate chamber fore and aft of the grid which serves much the same purpose as an X pipe. Would be interested to know exactly what magna flow Bob used on his mod.

My Magnaflows are #12215 available at Planet Magnaflow for around $73. ea.

I chose the 5 x8" as they were the right length and the 12215 is 2.25 inlet and outlet.

Total cost with installation was just under $300. using my tips. Painted them black - like stock mufflers after installation.

Polished mufflers in same size are around $20. more each.

A further question on exhausts for the SHO:

Is the OEM system true dual, or is there a common mid-pipe that splits back into 2 at the rear?

Cheers,
C.

The third cat has a common chamber as does the resonator ....everything else is "true dual"

Anyone do a mid muffler/3rd cat removal with stock mufflers? Thoughts? Sound clips?

Also still waiting on pricing and a sound clip of the Borlas too :)

I did and added the NESHO X-pipe. There is a slight improvement in sound. No sound clips, but will try and get one. Going in for the alignment after the H&R spring & bolt install this weekend.
