My 90 SHO had a interesting exhaust on it when I got it. The cat is a highflow y-pipe although not I sure what brand....but shosource thought it was a magnaflow or performance plus.

The rest of the exhaust was mostly stock, patched together in a few places with two different unknown brand and size mufflers. Pretty ugly and hokey.

I put on the shosource exhaust keeping the y-pipe, which is very nice improvement. I've also recently gotten the a/c working and now hear a rattle at idle with the a/c on, and it sounds similar to the noise of a bad cat. but it only happens at idle with a/c on. I'm convinced it's a heat shield at a specific rpm causes the resonance, but wonder if it is possible that a new exhaust would cause issues if the cat was on it's way out.

The new exhaust does touch the heat shield above the resonator and no adjustment is possible, based on the shape and turn in the pipe when bolted up. I spent some time when installing trying to adjust with no luck...could this be the one I hear? It sounds more forward but hard to pin point.

Just curious what others think.

Exhaust rattles seem to come from a long ways from where they really occur, in my experience...

Can you just bend the heat shield so it doesn't hit? I've done that sort of thing more than once.
