Hey all....just a simple questions about mufflers , need some insight! Anywho my girl has a 97' SHO and she wants Flowmasters put on. I want to get them for x-mas! so i was wondering what the best ones are to get and so forth. Don't have a lot of experience with SHO's so any suggestions would be a plus thanks- Jay

These are the ones that I had installed on my '97 SHO.

FLO-42443
FlowMasters 2 1/4 off set - off set

Nice sound, but sounds even better when you remove the resonator in the exhaust. It is the bigger, round expansion chamber in the middle of the exhaust system. You can't miss it. Try the mufflers first. It may be loud enough for her. If not,do what I suggested.
Enjoy!

You need TWO mufflers, and they are the 40 series. Try ordering them from Summit.com. I bought them at the beginning of the year, and paid $59.99 for each one. They are single outlet. You should be able to use the Flowmaster Part# to order them.

Anything else?

The resonator makes a huge difference....

I first switched the mufflers, ( I went with the much-cheaper, 17 bucks-each Thrush turbo mufflers ) and the sound was different, but not so much louder.. in fact the engine was louder than the exhaust. I went back to the shop and swapped out the resonator with straight pipes, the sound level increased to a very pleasing level. I shoulda went with Flowmasters, though... I most likely will do so when I get to Texas...

Personally, I went with Rhino mufflers. Love the sound at idle and WOT.
I haven't heard in person any other SHO that has anything other than stock mufflers, though.
Cost me $125 total, including installation.

I know of two other SHO guys running Magnaflow mufflers and we all seem to agree they are a great sounding muffler with a lifetime warranty. I love the things. See Magnaflow.com.

One would think the ones that came on the car from the factory have a lifetime warrantly. These are into their 4th Nova Scotia very high salt and slush winter and showing no signs of rusting through anywhere. Not very cooperative when you want to try a new type but will not toss out perfectly good ones...

Where can I find some prices on y-pipes and cat backs for the v-8? Most of the places I have checked, even sho-shop, I can't seem to find them. How many different brands are there? I would like to shop around a bit before makeing up my mind. How much difference in sound and performance if I just change out the stock mufflers? Will removing the resonator gain any hp? Or will removing the resonator make it too loud inside?
