Engine Knocking

Can anyone describe what this sounds like?? I think my engine is knocking, but don't know what it sounds like.

What I'm experiencing is a gurgling sound under acceleration at around 2k-3k rpm.

Well, there are different types of knocking.

A Rod Knock is loud and can be felt...usually.

A Spark Knock sounds like pebbles rolling down a tin roof.

A fragmented cat. converter sounds similar to a spark knock.

I suspect a fragmented catalytic converter...to check, hit the converter with a rubber mallet and listen for the rattle.

so are you saying that if your cats make noise then there shot? i think mine are anyway but i never knew of a way to actually tell.

If they make noise when you hit them with a mallet, I would say they are fragmented. I don't buy into the "cat material sucked into engine" theory, but I don't want fragmented cats either.

Edit: I can clearly hear cat material rattling around when I use a rubber mallet on the exhaust.

I just bought and installed brand new magnaflow figh flow cats. They only have 300 miles on them.

I'm guessing it would be the plugs then... timing belt loose? Would it cause this kind of knock???
