Im pretty sure most of u have heard of this problem already but im new to this. Last night i was driving my 1990 sho and and i heard a light knock, and as i headed home and i would stop at a light the knocking will stop but my red oil light will start flashing. So today when i got into it the car kept wanting to die and the knocking is so loud now it sounds like a major problem. If anyone else has delt with this please let me know whats up

Rod bearings are shot and most likely your (crank) engine as well, especially if it is making that much noise.

Bearings are realatively cheap and it is not a hard fix. But if it is making the amount of noise you indicate, chances are the crank has been beat up and will need turned. And that will need to be determined once it is out of the engine. Which will run you a bit of time and money.

the car is in pretty good shape, its lowered with 17in cobra rims. White but the interior has had its days. All the electronics in it work and its fun to drive and i would hate to sell it. So if anyone can help me out that would be cool or throw in a good offer

I'd say start off by dropping the oil pan and evaluate the damage to the rods and crank. With the pan off start by looking at the rods/bearings and the crank journals one at a time, you may find you need only to replace the bearings. This little bit of research is your best bet as of right now. This can all be done with the engine in the car.

Damn u guys are on top of this. I really appreciate all the help im recieving from u all of u. How do i notice if there is damage, and how much long will this process take doing it by myself. And what are the chances i can do this without messing something up. I have the tools and can get the car raised.

Quick over view.

1 - when you drain the oil to remove the pan, you will most likely see copper colored particles in the oil. this is the second indication the rod bearings failed, first is the noise you hear.

2 - once you have the rod cap removed from the rod, you will see the bearing and see any damage to it. Note the bearing is two halves, one in the cap and one in the rod journel. carefully push the rod and piston assembly up into the cylider bore (just enough) to slide the bearing off of the rod.

Couple of hours to take it apart and R&R stuff. It is pretty straight forward. Just take notes as to how the rad caps come off the rad and replace them in the same mannor. do one at a time because the cap removed from one rod needs to be put back on that same rod.
