My Brick has just under 14,000 mi and is 10 mo old. About 1/2 of the miles are on long trips.

I had my Throttle Body intake hose off today as part of a Top Secret Project, and decided to stick my fingers thru the butterfly and feel how dirty the intake manifold might be. Got two sooty fingers....

PANIC....:dribble::dribble: So I decided to remove the throttle body and scope out the intake (4 - 8mm bolts). I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was only a small area of slightly sooty area on the bottom of the intake, just behind the throttle body, and right where I brushed with my fingertips.

Behind this area the entire intake was clean, both to the finger method as well as with a white towel.:thankyou:

The back of the throttle body was also clean.

On my 2 Pontiac G8 GT's I have found a considerably greater amount of oil residue. In fact, I get over an oz of oil trapped in my catch(s) can every several thousand miles.

My conclusion is that Ford has effectively figured out how to control the residue from oil blow by that can coat intake manifolds, ports and valves that plague many direct injection engines. Their system of trapping the oil and allowing the overflow to harmlessly re-enter the system via the back valve cover seems to be working.:thankyou::woo-hoo:

However, I didn't remove the intake manifold and examine the intake ports and top of the valves.

Did notice the inside of the intake is quite rough. Would think a good polish/port job on both the intake and throttle body would have some positive benefits.

I extrude honed my intake on my 1991 SHO and after 50k miles only light streaks of oil that easily wiped off was on my runners. I think smoothing the runners will make it much harder for the oil to stick to the runners and improve flow by thinning the boundary layer of air in the intake.
