Did I get the wrong radiator?

I went to Advance Autoparts today to pick up a new radiator for my 95 MTX. Well, I watched the guy do all the selections on his computer screen and verified that he chose the 3.0L and not the 3.2L. Well, I get home and open the radiator box up only to find that there are connections for and oil cooler on the radiator. Curious as to if I got the wrong one, I went to their website and browsed around comparing the part numbers and descriptions for the radiators they had for the MTX and the ATX. The radiator for the ATX has a different part number than the radiator I got. I'm confused... do I take it back? I mean, it has the right part number and everything, but for some reason I have connections for an oil cooler and a 10" oil cooler in the radiator. This won't work on a MTX, no?

Also, just checked this out...

The Autozone radiator for the 3.0 MTX also has the same part number as the one from AA. The p/n is 432192. It seems that napaonline.com also has a similar radiator for the MTX that has the part number MO 2192. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm supposed to have capped off connectors for tranny cooler lines. I don't get it though since the radiator came with a kit for connecting the tranny cooler. :confused:

Are you sure? Just curious, because my factory MTX radiator that I removed doesn't have any sort of bungs for connecting a oil cooler since it doesn't have one.

Installing the radiator on an MTX is a pie job. I'm also using a radiator with the bungs but I didn't plug mine up, still works just fine.

Yeah, the install was a joke. It only took about 30 minutes from the point I started to drop the new one in to when I was reconnecting the wiring above it and installing the overflow reservoir. Those little brackets are ****** to line up though.

Update on MTX vs ATX radiators

I am in the process of replacing the radiator on my 93ATX and have reached the following conclusions:

1. The 2192 from NAPA (432192 from AutoZone & Advance) will work on the MTX only (the trans fluid connections are not used). It will not work on the ATX because the fittings in the radiator are 1/4" NPT threads and the SHO ATX needs 3/8" NPT thread size. An adapter is then screwed into the radiator which is male 3/8" NPT threads with 3/8" female compression threads to fit the trans fluid lines. The reason that the 2192 is specified for the MTX is because it is used on several Ford products (Lincoln, SLO and a few others). Therefore it is less expensive due to volume production.

2. The 2372 from NAPA @ $212 (431394 from AutoZone & Advance @ about $140-$150) will fit the ATX since it has the 3/8" NPT thread size. They require that you remove and reuse your adapters. Of course it would also work for the MTX but if the 2192 is available use it because it should be less expensive.

3. Also, don't be tempted to use the 2192 on an ATX by using a 1/4" NPT male to 3/8" female compression adapter. While this would hook up OK it will insert a pretty significant restriction in the trans fluid cooling circuit. You want all the trans cooling you can get!!!!!!

Bottom line.........the 2192 and 432192 will NOT work on the ATX!
