My 94 ATX with 84,000 needs a suspension overhaul. Everything is original. I was quoted a conservative $600+ on the rear struts. 2.5 hours a side, that's with Monroes I'm guessing.

I was going to sell the SHO to my Fiancees kid, but I would prefer to sleep in the bedroom

I could let it sit for a year or so, problem is it's such good condition with hint of rust.

I drove it home tonite and the rear struts are a making noise!!!

Or if anyone knows of someone who can do it CHEAP!!! Well, labor that is.

The rears are easy to do yourself. Fronts aren't bad either if you have someone else swap springs once they're out.

They are easy to do, unless you manage to break the bolt that connects the strut tower to the assembly. That bolt is very easy to break on a SHO with a decent amount of miles. Otherwise it could be done in 2-4 hours max.

Dont break the pinch bolts!! Heat the crap out of them!! Heat it your friend!!

Keep it clean low mile SHO's are hard to find in WI struts are easy to change, It shouldnt take more than an 1hr a side if nothing goes wrong

I have a heated garage. Air tools, etc. If something did go wrong I would prefer to have an exp. wrench standing by. When the book calls for 2.5 a side does that include smoke and coffee breaks:laugh_ti:

I have done other repairs, just took my cars in for suspension work. You know, work hours, families.

I would say that includes smoke and coffee breaks haha I would say only about 1hr a side with a helper, If you heat up the hub where the pinch bolt goes in and use your air tools you wont break the pinch bolts(just wire brush the threads clean so it doesnt jam up and use ****), It really isnt that hard you just disconnect the swaybar links, take the pinch bolts out (on the rear side of the hub you can get a screw driver in and spread the hub appart some to help it slide out) and pound the hub down (with the top still attached) and then take the three nuts inside the trunk off that are fun to get to, and drop the strut out, throw a spring compressor on it remove and put spring on new shock and put back in

Was the car in the air or on jack stands? Knowing me I would break something. A mech. mentioned something about don't break the blank on the stabilizer bar or you will need new ones?

On jack stands, I believe they would be talking about the swaybar endlinks they connect the swaybar to the strut

swaybar links are like 20 bucks or something.... if you arent sure, theyre probably broken anyway


if you can turn a wrench, you can change struts, just put it together how you took it apart

Yeah thats about as long as it takes me, but I have done it like 5 times now on all my Taurus's

Suspension is the lesser of the evils on these cars. If you only have 84K on your car, it is barley broken in.

I just brought our '92 home today which had to have the ball joint replaced on one side. It moved about an inch. The other side, which seems to be original, is tight. The car has 214k on it. Depending on what you need to have done on your car, $600 might not be a bad deal at all. I paid $300 today. He had the car all day, it needed an alignment, and the tires rotated. All worth it to me.

Rear struts are pretty simple as well but if you really want to get rid of your car, what do you want for it? If any of mine only had 84k on them, I would never get rid of them!

Update....I sold the car to my Fiancees son for $2,000. Great for me. It's no longer on my ins. policy which saves me $$$. More mod $$$ for the Lightning. Good car for a 17 year old to mess with:woohoo:
