Cylinder 4 Code

IT's been a while since i posted here. Frustrated at all the problems the SHO was having. Parked it for many months (after purchasing it used).

My transmission, like some others that i have seen posted on here, was slipping. The OD Light would blink, but not throw any codes. Well after many trips to the transmission shop with the OD light on at the time, and the garage running the car and not seeing any problems, the main seal went out (i think) pulling into the shops parking lot. Finally no need to worry about codes any longer... but a expensive rebuild. So tranny is fixed.

After returning from the tranny shop i have a service engine soon light on. I took it to have the codes pulled and Cylinder 4 is misfiring. I was going to buy a Haynes manual, but they do not cover SHO. I'd like to find a compatible service manual somewhere. Without knowledge of the motor i am lost.

Is it possible that something is disconnected or loose since the trany was pulled? I do not know where cylinder 4 is located? I assume the 4 plugs by the firewall have to be ugly to get to?

I am disabled so i have a lot of time on my hands. I'll try and see behind there tomorrow! Are the 8 coils under the engine cover or on each plug? Advance Auto suggested the plugs before the $80 coil.

Anyone ever see this CD? Total Car Care CD-ROM: Ford Mid-Size & Large Cars, 1983-1999 Jewel Case

It says it covers the SHO. I wonder to what detail before i drop $20.00 on it. It's from Chilton.

This forum is all you need to help maintain and repair an SHO.

A misfire code on the V8 cars is almost always a coil. Better than 90% of the time.

If you search, you will find a couple of different write ups on how to remove the surge tank to access the rear bank coils and plugs. Better than any manual you can buy, and FREE! :woo-hoo:

or talk to paul nimz (sorry if i spelled it wrong) which is shoz123 on this site. he hooked me up with a computerized service Manuel for $10 shipped maybe he can do you the same.

this site is a good tool but if you need help asap the book/cd would be there and ready and not have to wait on a reply

while your back there insulated your coil pack wires, i have had a misfire on cylinder 3 for a year now, done everything, then just last week i insulated the rear cp wires so far after about 20 cycles misfire is gone, so hopefully that takes care of that

Thanks for all the support on this issue. I found all the information (as suggested) by searching the forum. I just wasn't sure what i was searching for!

I will let everyone know how it turns out next week. I am going to replace 1-4 while i am back there. Hopefully i will get that horsepower back when its done.

Well i parked the SHO for the winter in the barn... Wife just started driving it again about a month ago.

TODAY i followed all the great information on how to replace the rear spark plugs and coils and just finished it up! Took it out for a test drive and the car has NEVER ran as good as it does now. Burnt the tires off of it (without trying) first time EVER.

I did run into one small issue... The T that connects the vacume lines together was very brittle and broke apart when i tried to remove them. It is a $2.00 part and suggest anyone doing this just go ahead and buy one before you start.

From start to finish took about 5 1/2 hours. Changed the oil while i was at it and wrapped the coil wires.

Pretty sure after looking at the plug that it was the issue, but wasn't going to chance it. I replaced all 4 rear coils and all 8 plugs. The job wasn't too bad, but didnt want to do it again any time too soon! The lower nut and bolt was a real pain in the butt!!! I feel like i did a real honest days work (being disabled) and now will need about 3 days to recover.

Boy the the car has a lot more HP! I would like to thank the members of the forum for all the great info and thanks for all the replies to this post!!!
