OK, I'm the sole loony in Northern Cali who goes autocrossing in a SHO all the time. I don't fit in no steenkeen Miata anyway.... Running SCCA events, so by their rules in Street Touring X class, I can do pretty much any springs I want.

I've been reasonably successful after 6-7 years now, worked my way up to wins in one Chapter and a 2nd in the big one. And aren't all those Subie drivers annoyed by my Grocery Getter! :snicker:

Currently have Intrax rear, put the Eibachs back in the front because I was bottoming out too much with the Intrax front. Konis of course. SHOShop 29mm rear bar :thumb: and 24mm stock front. 17x8 Team Dynamics 38mm offset in rear (Thanks Josh!), Quaife. my specs on
http://www.calweb.com/~pault/BaySHO/PTSHO.htm

But I want to move to the next level, get past a few more of those guys and get a Jacket for the championship win. So the wisdom is go for the gusto and put in coilovers. I've heard from Hack and Lance about their cars; what I want to hear back is: What brand you got? ITP, GC, whatever SHOBros sells? What spring rates and lengths do you run? Any bars? I really want to hear about track day and autocross results; I understand that the ride will probably be brutal.

On my 91+ I have the Koni inserts with the Ground Control Coil Over's. I really like this setup. Very perdictable, and easy to adjust. I'm not sure of my current spring rates, though. Rule of thumb when I talked to Ground Control directly was, the light your car, the light the springs you can use.:thumb:

Just so you know ITP is no longer made and hasnt been made for a while.

We sell Ground Control and we can provide you with what ever spring rates you need. They usually in 50lb incraments.

What's a real coilover setup? The situation is going to be the same as with any other product: the market just isn't there. I'd say there are less than 20 SHOs running around with coilovers.

Group buy's on stuff for SHO go nowhere. Lots of talk, but when you ask for $$$ you can hear crickets and frogs.

a "real" setup has struts that are designed for coilovers, .here's my friend nicks setup for his 91 pgt:
DSCN0281

DSCN0283

and i was asking out of curiusity...yeah,i noticed about the group buys..but there are somethings that people would cough up the money...i guess you'd have to rid in a car with them to fully appriciate a well designed setup

Actually there are probably more than that. There were ten sets of Morrell coilovers made and I think _most_ if not all of those got installed and are probably still installed. I don't know how many sets IPT made, but there seems to be a number of them still around. Plus however many GC and modified GC kits are out there and I bet the number is substantially more than 20.

I believe there was 7 or 9 of the IPT kits made.

Judging by the strut mounts, they look like Gary M's coilovers. The IPTs were black painted steel, and the the GC one use the stock mounts.

Are those Morell's?

That's my set from Gary's parts run, yes. They're currently on the Pumpkin.

Gary's personal set is, as always, cleaner and shinier. :D
