To any an all help,

I was driving my Taurus SHO and noticed on my dash that it flashed a warning that said AWD OFF and im like where did that come from? Not sure what caused this. Hooked up the ol' scanner and received codes ABS

U0131:00-08

which is lost connection with Power Steering Control Module A and it said the Module was Anti-Lock Braking System

Then I received code

PSCM U0121:00-08

which is Lost Communication with Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module A
It also says
SWRS: 0 1/min - Steering Wheel Rotation Speed
SW_Angle: 0.00 ° - Steering Wheel Angle

DSM: B2312-20, B2316-20

DDM B2324-20

Not sure what is going on but this car seems to be flaky after only owning it for a few days.

Any and all help is appreciated

Have you had the power steering update from Ford? I know my car had a few errors with the steering before I had that done.

It’s a 2015 and no I have not. Those recalls weren’t for my year. I was just driving my car and when I turned it on I noticed that my memory seat and mirrors weren’t working and then I saw the check engine light and thought I’d scan it at an auto parts store and those other codes came up and it gave me like 5 codes of like driver memory seat position failure and passenger failure and something about vertical and horizontal and then something about abs module a issues with both the power steering and abs module a issue and then my awd is off notification light came on and I’m like what the ****.

Then I am not sure I know I have in the past had issues with my seat memory as well as the cross traffic sensors unfortunately there were no codes that came up. I hope you get a resolution soon I know what it can be like to have the steering act up.

My daughter ('13 Flex EB) was getting warning lights and her power steering would disengage, and the dealership said it was the alternator. A couple alternators and a new battery eventually solved the issue. I'm betting on battery. These cars are notorious for flashing codes and weird behavior when the battery starts dying.

I have noticed that if I don't start my car for a couple weeks which has not been uncommon during the pandemic that my seat and steering wheel do not move to the designated location sometimes. I attribute this to the battery not being fulling charged and making the electronics fail during startup. So, I am going to guess it could be your battery as well.

I would clear those DTCs and see if you can duplicate the message and see if those dtcs come back. The dtcs you have really wouldn't cause an AWD message alone if those dtcs were the cause. I would think you would have other messages.

The awd off may not actually set a dtc either.

So if the voltage is lower, it may not be an issue other than those codes flashing because the required voltage was to low. I looked it up and it reuires 11.8 volts and it was below the 11.8 threshold it could cause the issue. I guess its more or less im not having the issues and I just wanna make sure everything is working fine such as the abs and pscm and the awd.

I did a soft reset of the modules and seen if the codes come up and they did. The drivability seems fine and I dont have a check engine light, but the last thing I want is an issue later on with these codes. Im not as worried about the memory seat as I am about the AWD OFF message and the check brake system message and the message with the ABS ad PSCM losing communication with each other.

What is a soft reset to you? Did you use the scan tool to clear the dtcs?

On your test drive did you get the awd off warning? Or did you get an awd off and check brake system warning? Just becuase a DTC set doesn't mean you have to chase it if everything is working properly. You may be going after a rabbit you don't have to.

Soft reset was using scan software to reset the module which is basically clearing the codes so I could see if they came up again. I drove it and the dtc's returned after about a 10 minute drive. Problem is now everything seems to be working. No steering issues, awd gauge shows it is working fine, no check engine light or abs light, no issues with the memory seat as it is working and I could care less about memory of mirrors. When I test drove it there were no issues. I would assume if there was a major issue it would be with a warning light of some sort I wold think. I have to take the car to the dealership i bought it from an hour away and I feel like i'm wasting time and gas if nothing is wrong with it. Im just not sure of what to do. Just say to **** with it and drive it or take it up there for them to find nothing wrong or for them to find the codes and then they fix stuff assuming they find something or would they have to reprogram a module. I wish I could find someone who knew these codes well and could say what they are and explain the fix if one is needed. THE PSMC AND THE ABS/AWD are the main concerns but it seems to be working fine.

My 2015 also thru some non-sensical codes and after replacing the battery all is well. If your 2015 has the original battery it may be time.

it has a duralast gold battery with 1000 cca and i expect a car of this magnitude to have a fair amount of electrical draw and require such a battery. Ill have to check the date on it or hook up a battery tester to it. I have read it could throw these codes or codes like this, if voltage is short or not at the 11.7 Volts and it is less it could lose communication and throw a code. Im thinking of holding off and seeing what happens cause I dont wanna waste the gas or the money to see if something is wrong. Im assuming if I was having constant issues that i would get a constant message on the ICP that would say AWD OFF or check brake system everytime and I do not see that.
