yeah. something clutch related went out just as i drove back home this weekend. I can't get the car back into gear, but i've got AAA so i need to have somewhere to tow it to. First time i'll have to use them in the 6 years i've been driving. anyhow, if anyone can help me out with some suggestions, :thankyou:

the story: pulling away from a toll booth, not redlining or anything, i usually shift at 3500-4500, anyhow, 1st, 2nd, couldnt get into 3rd, couldnt get into any gear... coast to the shoulder, manage to grab 4th... get to pittsbrugh, stop at a red light, can't get into any gear... park.

sounds like a linkage/synchro issue, no clutch chatter, noise or vibes.

the reason I ask is that I had the same problem, which turned out to be destroyed clutch disc and broken pressure plate. I drove it from Boston MA to Toronto in that condition, just took some patience.

ah ok, well i'm hoping it's just in the rod shifter linkage or something as the clutch, pplate etc everything is performance, with roughly 25k on it, and i don't ride it at all. we'll see soon.

I'm having a similar issue right now with my '95. The clutch will not disengage, but the clutch cable is properly pulling the arm, and I was able to drive the car by rev matching. It even has the right feel in the clutch pedal, just no disengagement. My Dad also had a similar problem, and his was a friction disk spring which broke loose and jammed into the pressure plate. You and I may have the same problem. I should know tomorrow when I pop the subframe and tranny off.

went and looked at the car again this morning. unfortunately for me the car shifts fine when it is off so its not a linkage issue. makes a strange light tap or grind as well so something is out of place. it will move under its own power if i put it in gear when it is off but i'm towing it to not wreck anything else. seems like a spring popped out or something and is keeping the clutch from fully disengaging. now to research proper aftermarket replacements.

FWIW, when I did the drive (in a SC SHO no less), I shifted without a clutch all the way, including rush hour at the boarder on a friday.

The transmission was disassembled shortly thereafter, with no damage at all internally.

For me one of the PP straps broke and probably jammed into somewhere, but I never found it. I too have a CM stage 1 on the way.

Given the run of clutch problems for many here over roughly the last year, could both of you please post what type of clutch kits you were running, as well as where the kits were purchased :thumb:

Also, pictures of the damaged disc/pressure plate when you get the old parts back, would help others here, if you can post the photos.

clutch plate that had a spring pop out was a stock disk.

Mine was a stock Valeo clutch with about 40k miles, mounted to a SHO Shop 8 lb flywheel (not the Fidanza). Here's the busted strap:

P9260002

Reportedly, the CM1 has a strap about 50% thicker, and with much tougher bolts holding them on.

Time to drive out to the Windsor PnP to rip out some tranny bolts. I rounded one before impact gunning it off!

For those torque straps to break or springs to pop out, you have to have tremendous torque going through the clutch assembly. One thing that could cause that is if the disc moved off center. Since the SHO has no pilot bearing, a worn input shaft bearing could allow shaft wobble, and let the disc float off center.

Just a theory, but I'd check your input shaft bearing when you change the clutch.

Thought I would ask again . . . .

. . . new OEM parts or OE remans?

So, both you guys had Ford OE-replacement clutch sets? Do you know if they were remans?
