I was wondering if anyone had a write up on removing and re-installing the clutch cable on a '92 MTX. My self adjusting mechanism hasn't worked since I got the car and I figure I should do something about it. I'm guessing it's going to be a pita, but I just hope that I don't have to move large parts to get at it (ie. tranny, engine, etc.) Haven't looked under there yet, but would just kind of like to know what I'd be getting myself into.

Thanks.

You can remove the clutch cable without removing any large parts. Just have someone pull up on the clutch pedal or prop it, and remove the cable from the tranny. Then pull the cable from the inside. I didn't have fun reinstalling the new one, so be sure that is your problem before you do anything.

well, it won't click and readjust when I lift up on it, so I figured I'd at least clean it a bit and see if that works. If not, I'll hopefully know what the problem is by then and be able to take care of it.

I work on drivetrains for a living.

I see a lot of people on the internet ask for write-ups on installing things etc.... But its not nessecary, it is actually kind of easy to remove anything on car you want. You look at the part you want to change, and just remove everything holding it on, remeber how it goes back on.... it is pretty much that simple, don't be imtimidated. NOw some seals on cars need special tools to take off and all but for the most part, just about everything on the car comes off relatively easy. don't stress it, get under there and start working on it... its fun lol

I put on some new subframe spacers, printed out a write-up on how to install it and 3/4 of the steps were totally not nessecary.(then again I drop a lot of subframes so its a lot easier to me) The page said 1-2 hours to install, I did it in 20 minutes with no instructions at all...

There is a clip and pin holding the clutch pedal onto the car. Remove the plastic cover, held on by a single screw, and you can take the whole pedal out of the car so that you are not standing on your head when you try to figure out what is wrong with your self-adjuster. Mine was stripped out and needed replaced. Not a tough job at all.

Kinda related, but where can I order a new cable and new adjuster? My adjuster is a little suspect, and my cable is stretched out more than a Hunts Point ******'s... uh.... so, yeah, it's pretty stretched out. :oogle:

Any ideas?

Does anyone know where a cheaper price for a clutch cable can be found? I looked on FPN and found one for $152.64! :oogle: Just for a damn cable??!! For that price I'd visit a few junk yards and pull it myself.

Hopefully someone else has a better price cause I don't wanna take it in the stink for a lousy cable.

Should be 30-40 bucks most places. Replacing is a PITA on the pedal end BTW.

I'm pretty sure I saw it at Rockauto.com for like $41 or something like that
