Hello & Happy Holidays. The clutch cable on my 91 broke & trying to have it replaced. The guy I have doing it is having a difficult time with it. Anybody have a link to the procedure to replace it?

Thank you

the clutch pedal asm has a ratcheting mechanism to keep the cable tight - that needs to be released so he can get the cable attached. there are writeups all over on how to do this, so the fact that he cannot figure it out casts a big shadow over his ability to successfully work on these vehicles...

Search "clutch quadrant". You'll need to remove one side of the quadrant to get the old cable removed and the new one installed. Insert the new cable thru the firewall and hook up the end inside the car first. After you have the pedal end attached you can then attach the other end to the clutch lever.

The clutch pedal was removed to put the cable on. Don't know if that's right or wrong but the guy is having trouble getting it back on (he's an emergency mechanic that I dealt with b4). The pedal has a small springloaded piece and a rod with it. Needs to know how to get it back assembled. All help is appreciated. Links, pics.....

Thank you

The "springloaded piece" is the clutch quadrant. Search clutch quadrant as I already recommended and you will learn. Specifically, "quadrant adjustment". The pedal needs to be reinstalled and you/he will need to connect the cable to the quadrant with the tension released. Make sure the cable is not yet connected to the clutch lever.

The clutch pedal isn't removed when replacing the clutch cable. As I remember you pull the cable up from the fork on the transmission housing, then from inside the car you pull the cable into the cabin. Replacing the cable is the reverse.

In the early 1990's before I realized that Tom Holzer Ford in Farmington Hills, Michigan had put my throwout bearing in backwards I was replacing clutch cables every 10K miles!!! Got so I could do it in under ten minutes.
