Can anyone tell me what type of fastener holds down the clutch cable shield thing on the pedal? It needs to come off to reinstall a new cable, correct? We had a cable shred and I'm attempting to replace it in the bitter cold... Everyone says this job shouldn't take more than an hour or two.. so I must be doing something wrong if I'm getting frustrated.

The replacement cable is inside, but I need to be able to get it into the adjuster somehow. Once that's set, reattaching to the MTX is cake. I've done that a number of times.

Thanks!

FWIW, the bolts are 8mm. Hopefully that might help someone else in the future. I noticed a really weird result from replacing the cable. I didn't put the shield back on yet, as I used a pulled cable to get the car going until a new one can arrive.

The shifting is SO much better than before when the original or this newer cable was installed. Like when I did the original clutch job. I'm gathering it was improperly installed when the replacement clutch was put in, and I was stupid when I later changed the cable and probably reinstalled the new cable as the old one was. This time I followed what the '95 had, and now it feels nice and smooth!! :omgsho:

A nice resolution at least to a very frustrating failure at the beginning of the week. :woo-hoo:

Question

Are you saying that you re-routed the cable or something else? I would like to have a better explanation of what you did to make the shifting better. Are you saying that you only have the cable installed without the shielding over it? Please explain.

Thanks,

The cable may have been routed improperly and I made sure to route it properly during the reinstall. I did not reinstall the shield yet as I may replace this used cable with a new one, since it was suspect before.
