I was reading through another post the other day about if you can't shift into reverse after putting the car in neutral with the clutch pedal down for 5 seconds then shifting into reverse without grinding you clutch may not be completely releasing... well mine will grind if I try the above. So the self adjuster on the clutch pedal does nothing if I try to lift the pedal, so here's my question. I reached down there and felt the teeth on the clutch adjuster quadrant and it's all the way to one end of the quadrant, so perhaps that's why it's not adjusting anymore.

As the clutch wears is the cable supposed to be tightened towards the rear of the car or more slack given towards the front of the car?

From what mine seems like there is no more slack being able to be given towards the front of the car in the cable. So looking at the quadrant from the side of the passenger side it would be completely rotated clockwise. The only way there are more teeth is to rotate it counterclockwise and seems like the clutch cable would have to get tighter... Anyone know how this works?

As the clutch wears, the quadrant and cable end are adjusted towards the rear of the car to take the slack out of the cable. It sounds like the spring in the quadrant may not be taking the slack out of the cable. This can be the result if the spring is borken or the clutch pedal has been removed and not properly installed.

Well there is only about 10K or so miles on the clutch, so I guess it may be possible that is hasn't needed an adjustment. But on the other hand if I shift to second or third before I try engaging first gear I never have a problem trying to get it into 1st gear. Guess it could be a synchro problem but it's very new.

I got to give my fiancee some reason to spend some money on the SHO.
Besides the failed Tokico strut, 2 new front wheel bearings it needs, a replacement driverside rear ebrake cable....

i had my white '91 for almost a year and had a really bad problem with the car not letting me get it into the gears w/o a hard shoving,or if i wanted to get into reverse (gasp.......oh not not reverse.....) i actually had to turn the car off,put it into reverse, then resatrt thge car to go....

a friend of mine's solution ??????

get into the car,w/o it running, push the clutch to the floor, and just slip your foot off of it to the side.

if you are doing this procedure correctly, when you push in the clutch and hold it to the floor, then release it,your foot will slip right off of the clutch pedal and onto the carpeting of the floor/firewall area. ( i.e. the clutch pedal will fly by your foot when released back to it's fully out position)

this truly does work if you are having a doubt as to if it might be an engaging/disengaging clutch issue.
also, i did try the "pull up on the clutch pedal trick" and i didn't get that to work at all for me.

anyway, there is my .02 cents

this was what i had written a while back about my above problem, and this fixed the engaging/disengaging issue i had been having (he said his brother told him to try that trick b/c it worked for him on a couple of mustangs...........he said to me" i figured, hey what the ****,it's free and worth a shot......."

I ruined my TOB side-stepping the clutch like that with the car off, and it didn’t fix my adjustment problem either.

well,as i said before,it was an idea that had worked(without any problems) for me and my white sho.

clearly this is not either a perfect or correct(procedure wise) as far as i know.
i only said it worked for me and that it might be worth a try.
