How can/do I replace the buttons on my '92 MTX climate control panel? All the center descriptive words are unreadable. They've all been pushed in. Is this situation normal? I went to my local FoMoCo dealer and was told they could do the job. Luckily, a friend of mine who works there took me aside and warned me it would be very expensive if they did the work there.

i really think this is the best and cheapest way to fix it. if you contact bob white decals for how much it would cost to make little text to replace the current, then cut black electrical tape to the exact size of the buttons add the tape then the labels. i think it would work best to remove the unit to do the best job. so far i have just added the tape and it looks good even for a crappy job of it.

that is a documented problem with the climate control buttons, they now sell redesigned units with buttons that dont break as easily/at all.

you can find them on ebay for around 70/90 dollars.

i think it would be worth it, i bought mine with the broken buttons, and now i have them memorized!

i have some extra buttons laying around in good shape (not *great* shape) if you dont want to spend 70 bucks on ebay ill sell these to you for cheap cheap. let me know. i tried repairing mine with some glue and plastic and alot of patience, it worked on most of them, the rest i replaced with junkyard parts, but i dunno if i would do the glue again. makes ya feel funny when you sniff too much of it  jim whats up man! we should treck out to campbell hall and get a bunch of EATC faces in good shape!

actually lemme check, i think i have a set in mint condition except for one button. drop me a line though if you need to.

Speaking of this, I've been working on an "external" fix for this problem for some time now. If someone who has a unit with good buttons could take a good pic of it when it's lit up (perferably at night) and post it here or email it to me I'd appreciate it. My email address is mailto:[email protected][email protected]</a>

Yeah i just went to the junk yard the other day. And "Got" three climate controls two was from crown vics and another was from a 91 sho. and i already had 2 sitting around the house and then i had the one in my sho right now. I was just going to use the best buttons from all of them to make a good eatc. But when i was doing that i notice i had some blue eatc buttons and green buttons. I was like shit. I didn't know about that. So i did have a eatc in my sho that was blue buttons and my new eatc which all of the buttons are in great shape now, my new one has green buttons and a green display. My question is what years had the blue display and blue buttons. i would rather have that in my sho then green.....

Thanks

I was wondering the same thing. I bought my sho about a month or so ago with the broken controlls.

Were gonna have to organize a get together for all the people in NE that have sho's. Their is a bunch of us that meet once a year for Super Coupes in ne. I think it'd be pretty cool if we can do the same for sho's. Email me at [email protected] if interested.

shoguy 93, i know on the gen2 eatc's the blue/green "filler" on the inside of the button can be swabbed out with some paint thinner or something similiar. i had started but never finished experimenting with spraying a different color into the buttons to change the night color. i have also experimented with crafting a gen 3 eatc face to fit on the gen 2 faces, so i know that can be done. the one i did it with was from a newer crown vic.

Still need a pic guys. wink Anybody?? I'd take a pic of mine, but most of the buttons are already completely cracked out. :(

Edit: At this point...any picture that shows the lettering clearly for all buttons will work. I can change the color in Photoshop.

Will somebody with good climate control buttons please take a freakin' picture of it lit up at night for Beth?

Seriously.

I'm dying to see the fix she has planned!

I'm lucky, both my 93 and 95 have the redesigned buttons, and I had purchased a new one for my 92 (230 bucks, OUCH!)
I removed the new unit from my 92 before I sold it, so I'm going to try and sell it, but nobody wants to pay 200 for it(can't blame em).
