i know it seems like a dumb question, and ive searced alot. but maf is too short to search for and i tried spelling it out but couldnt really find anything other than people just saying to clean it. but how? i took it off and was looking at it? do i just spray something in that hole towards the top? or should i unscrew those 2 odd torx screws on top to actually get to the sensor? can i just use carb cleaner? or should i go buy that electronic cleaner stuff? and if i need to get those 2 tamperproof torx out how should i go about that? i guess ill just dremel some slits into em? but i know i def have a maf sensor issue and would rather not buy a new one.

Just spray electronics cleaner in that top hole and let it dry

PepBoys carries a MAF cleaner only product, says it big and bold on the can.

I've always just unscrewed the sensor, carefully remove the o-ring, and spray it with CRC Brakleen. Let it dry, a drop of redline SI-1 on my fingers to roll the o-ring around in to give it some harmless ****, lay the o-ring in it's bed on the MAF, or carefully place back on the sensor depending on my mood, then screw the sensor back down.

Sure, I'd use dedicated electronic cleaner spray if I had some, but I never seem to and I'm always too cheap to buy it when I remember to take a look-see at the auto-parts store. I always seem to have some CRC Brakleen on hand. And often lesser quality brake cleaners too. The Brakleen has never let me down on my MAF sensor. But that's just me. Don't forget to never touch the filaments. Just let the spray get 'em. Nothing else.

Mine has plain philips screws. If I had security torx I wouldn't hack it up, I'd use a security torx bit. Not just because I already have a set, I'd buy the proper bit if I didn't. Not that it's a big deal to slot the screws.

It's always been my practice to cut slits in the top of the torx safety screws using a dremel, to make it easier to remove them the first time. Then I replace those stupid safety screws with good old fashioned philips screws.

A few blasts of comprssed air on the MAF filaments while you are spraying them down will help the cleaning process.
