Does the CE light have to be illuminated to have codes on the EEC.
No, the CE light could have come on for even a moment and then gone off. You would have a code stored for when it was on. Some problems do correct themselves.

i've just started having problems with the car in the last 3-4 days, and i've never had a check engine light come on. The only advice i've gotten is have the EEC read, but it would be a waste of money if i've never seen the CE lit right?

Check out www.shotimes.com They explain how to read the codes yourself. There could be a code stored in there and it may or may not make a difference. Best bet is to learn to do it yourself or find someone here who lives close to you who has a reader.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Hey, I see you're in Sturgis...I'm only about an hour north of you, in Portage. I'm pretty busy, but if you have a chance to drive up this way I'd be happy to take a look at your SHO for you thumbs_u
