I have a 93' ATX with 65K. If i happen to race a rice burner up a hill or simply just gun it for fun up a hill the check engine light will come on. Does anyone have any idea of what this could be?

Thanks

Run your codes. There is no way possible to answer your question unless we know what codes the computer is throwing.

thats wierd, my 94 MTX check engine light started coming on after I installed my new tranny, and when it comes on I just shut the car off and then started it right back up and it wasn't on, it was weird too. shrug

I just had that same problem on my 95 SHO. I just changed out the O2 sensor, changed my oil, spark plugs and wires, and changed my transmission filter and gasket. That seemed to help. The problem I have is that my gas mileage is horrible. I am not sure what that could be. Any tips? Right now I am getting about 150 miles to the tank. I usually get about 250 or so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI shogirl, there are 2 O2 sensors for the V6.

And welcome aboard!

Who did the plug / wire change, did they take the intake manifold off, are all the sensors plugged in again, and are all the vacuum lines plugged in?

How are you driving it? I know in my 95 ATX I've gotton as much as 315 miles from a tank and as low as 150 depending on how I drive, 150 miles per tank is the most fun :D

As Mikeys_Taurus has suggested, unless you retrieve the codes, you are just guessing at a solution. You really need to find out what the problem is before you start throwing money at the car. The problem is that the car will absorb all you cash you can throw at it. Be smart - read the codes.

It's nice peace-of-mind too. If anything else is brewing within the beast, it might just tell you.

There are 3 o2 sensors in the on v6's. There are 2 close to the exaust manifolds, and 1 right after the cats.

He said the Gen IIIs have three O2 sensors. All of the V6 SHOs have just the two sensors.
