Does anybody know the procedure for changing or flushing the power steering fluid in a 93 ATX? Mine appears to be dirty, and I think it might be louder then normal.

Thanks,
Joe

The way I did it was to run the motor with the drain line plumbed down into my oil drain pan. I kept adding fluid until it ran clear, while having the assistant turn the wheel to the stops to clear the system.

Refill, let it work the air bubbles out, top off, and enjoy.

No, everything in the system retains a film of oil so they are still protected. IF your worried about running the pump dry you car begin pouring the "flushing oil" into the resevoir as soon as you start the engine to pump out the system.

I did the flush the other day.. It got a little messy, but I didn't mind because the old fluid was pitch black... nasty stuff..

I didn't notice anything different about the steering afterward, but I didn't expect it.. Its kinda like changing your oil.. its a maintience thing.. but you feel good after you do it...

I would recomend flushing the system with regular atf before putting syenthetic mercon v in..

thanks..
