Change antenna to stationary one?

Would anyone know how to go about changing the movable antenna to a stationary one?
What I would like to do is get rid of the metal antenna mast, and switch that to one of the new, common black plastic (?? plastic) flexible ones that stays in place.
I would also like to get rid of the antenna motor since it won't be needed.

Does anyone know of an antenna that will work for this and how difficult this would be to do?

My antenna doesn't work now, although it sounds like it does (motor sounds like it works fine). It's stuck in the up position. I'd rather just get rid of it and have one that doesn't move.

It's super easy to fix, just takes some time...I just did the job on my 95 tonight.

If you wanna switch to the stationary antenna, my advice would to visit your local junkyard, and take all the parts off of a Taurus Slo, or Sable.

If you wanna replace it, order a mast from fordpartsnetwork or something, and install it.
All you need is to unscrew the top ring (careful not to scrach your paints finish) Then get a deep well 14MM socket, and put it down over the antenna, loosen the stantion nut, then turn the power on the radio. The entire mast and nylon gear cord will come out.

If there is cord broken off (most likely there is) you might want to remove the whole motor assembly, take the nut off the housing, and remove the extra piece that's left in it. It's very easy, just pay attention to how it all comes apart so you can put it back together.

The tricky part is getting the new antenna cord to feed back in the motor. The tooth side of the cord needs to be facing the front of the car. Then shove it down hard right after you turn the radio off. Two people really help.

I was thinking of converting to an integrated glass antenna and filling that fender hole. What do you guys think? For those of you that don't know what I mean, it looks just like a rear defroster grid but it's an actual antenna. I've seen many new cars have this.

I converted my '93 to an 18" rubber antenna. Need to paint the chrome trim black now.

What i did was take of the wheel well and remove the motor for the power antenna. I left the tube in place as it fit nicely and is able to keep the chrome peice on the fender. I then bought a big piece of allthread and (using locking nuts and adapters) ran it up the length of the tube to where only the needed length stuck out the top. I put on a shorty antenna about 9" long. This worked great for me!!

I know I already mentioned this to you but I thought I would explain to everyone else on the forum what I did.

I replaced my broken power antenna with a new stationary unit from a SLO and a black spiral mast from a new F150.

I bought the new SLO stationary kit from a Ford dealer (about $50 cdn) and also bought the mast (about $10 cdn). I then removed the old power antenna motor, mast, and wiring and installed the new fixed mast in it's place. The new mast plugs right into the old mast's wiring and looks to me better than stock with the black mast.

what did you do to makr it a rubber antenna? i may do the same or just get a stationary antenna from a junkyard. my mast has been tempermental lately, it is is a different spot every day. it worked fine before but i think somebody bent it a little bit one day

I got the antenna off of eBay. It is one of those "European" antennas. I used the inside the fender mount from a SLO. It just replaces the motor and mount of the SHO power antenna. It screwed right on the mount with the supplied adaptor.
