Celebrating 225K and 20 years

Bought my 1997 GEN 3 SHO in September 1997 with 7K on the odometer. I am the second owner. Its been my daily driver since then. Drive on!

I lived in MA until Jan 99 and had the car maintained at the local Ford Dealer. Moved to GA and FPS took over.

Its stock except for an SCT Tune and FPS transmission rebuild.

Quick pics. Should have washed it before taking the pics. The Ford Window Sticker came with the car. The Ford plant in Atlanta is now the Porsche North American headquarters.

Looks I had the sticker on my 95, not sure about the 92. Glad to hear the Ford plant is still "employed".

Congrats, 4ofDiamonds! Gives me hope that I may take my SHO to 200K! I'm still trying to figure out the car, and how to shore up some of the systems for hot weather duty (no snow here, thank goodness).

Congratulations. Mine was also an east coast car and I was its second owner, the first being the Atlantic Canada Regional director for Ford who had it for 6 months. You should check about in the quarter panels to make sure they are still sound. Its a not uncommon problem for former east coast cars getting to the age of both of ours. Mine stopped being a daily driver 4 years ago when I picked up the 911, but still gets run about in the summer. Its also over 200k, but I have not checked the odometer and converted to miles for a while so do not remember how much, but I think you are ahead of me in the original transmission contest.

Mine is rust free. While I lived in MA I took the commuter rail to work so the exposure to winter road chemicals was minimal. About once a year GA has an ice storm so the highways get "white washed" with corrosive chemicals. The road crews typically let mother nature deal with the back roads, so the use of road salt and other corrosive material is not widespread. An underbody wash typically does the trick. The only sign of corrosion is in the wheels. The chrome breaks down over time and the tires don't hold pressure as well. At the moment that is not a big deal. I suppose I could get the wheels refurbished to solve that problem.

Yes, the chrome on the wheels does eventually start to peel. You might find, with so many of these having been scrapped due to death from the cam sprocket problem, that you can pick up a set of still good condition wheels at a scrap yard for considerably less than it would cost to get yours redone. I have done this twice, with the first replacement set on the car now and a spare set stored downstairs in case I need it later. I think that second set, which I got maybe 6 years ago, I picked up for $100 for all 4 and they were in very good shape.
