(i did a search and couldn't find anything relevent.)
i want to mount a full size galaxy dx-949 next to my console but i'm afraid that if i use some self-tapping sheet metal screws to screw the mount into the center console **** that it will cause water to leak into my carpet. any ideas? TIA

I'd say no to mounting it under the column... in a wreck, it'll destroy your knees! Plus, That Galaxy is a big radio... I say do it to the tunnel, just squirt some silicone there before you run the screws all the way down.

yeah there's not much room under the steering column and the idea of a collision with it under there makes me wince! i've seen sheetmetal screws with some kind of sealant already attached.

Hmm... that would be my choice then, just keep a check on it for leaks.

BTW, how do you like that Galaxy? I've thought about it, and a new Cobra 29...I have a Cobra 29 Chrome in the work truck and it does pretty good, when I haven't broken off the antenna LOL

Wait. How big is this. This is what I did.

Why would water leak in? .....I think I'm confused where you are planning on mounting this.

thanks for the pic. i wanted to mount it like that but i didn't want any screw holes in the console in case i decide to remove it. how did you attach yours?
i had a couple of used cobra 29s and they didn't last. just got a general lee from sparkscbshack and it swings 65-70 watts. i use it as a base station. they align and tune for free and stand behind the warranty. the galaxy dx-949 measures 7 7/8 W x 9 1/4 D x 2 1/ H. sparkys has these factory refurbed for $89.95 with a free peak and tune and 2 year warranty from galaxy. these have great rx and tx and swing 25-30 watts after the tune.

Well the radio I got from a friend, and he didn't have a bracket for it. So I fabbed one up out of sheet metal. Its folded under the console at the bottom and there is one wood screw at the top. Its pretty sturdy and I figured that if I remove it I can ruffle the carpet a little and you won't be able to see the hole.

My cb is mounted exactly like the above picture.
but my bracket is screwed into the console with metal screws.
and when i did my black interior swap, i removed the bracket and the holes were totally invisible cause of the thikness of the carpet.

i didn't realize the the lower part of the console was covered with carpet. it will make it nice to hide the screw holes if i decide to remove my rig. TIA
