is the inside edge of the socket sloted? I was able to press some solid copper wire (14 AWG) into the slot and then snap it back onto the ball. Saved me on my 91 which kept slipping off. After that it never came off again. Other than that you will have to replace the entire cable. It may not be the best idea, but it was cheap and it worked for over a year until I sold it.

Not sure of where I found it on the internet but it is somewhere on one of the sho sites, there is a clip that will hold the cable onto the ball, it is made by dodge, (chrysler corp) that they use on their trnas. I used one for a year until I got my rod shifter, they cost around $3.00. If I can find the article I'll post it. I know this dosen't help with out the part #, but it will let you know there is a fix out there.

I have also seen the dodge clip. Any local dealer shoud have a few and they are cheap. They were used alot on Dodge shadows, sundances and lancers. They were called shifter boot clips I think.
