cam sprocket welding question

If the sprocket has moved, what is the proceedure for indexing or locating the sprockets to the proper timing position relative to the camshaft.

If the sproket has moved you need to replace the cam IIRC. Plus you prolly have other damage from the pistions hitting the valves. Take a look around www.V8SHO.com for more info.

It can be re indexed as long as the splines on the sprocket and cam shaft tube have not slipped and been eaten away. There is a timing mark on both timing gears that must be aligned.

When I removed my cams one of my sprockets slid down the tube and spun around freely. I sent it of to have it welded @ NESHO and have recently started and ran the motor.

The official procedure is "hope and pray". :frown:

As Curtis mentioned, we have the ability to do it in the car or out, using custom jigs that we designed and made. Short of that, buying a new cam from Ford and replacing the loose one would be the next best choice.
