Cam Failure in Stevensville MI, Need advice!

Hey everyone, I need some advice for a friend. A guy in Stevensville Michigan contacted me because his car had cam-failed and the mechanic he was using said that he had realigned the cam, wanted to have it welded, and after that it would be fixed. The mechanic made no mention to him that there might be (most likely is) valve and/or piston damage. He asked about bringing the car to me but I told him that I really don't have the resources to take on that kind of job. I did tell him that I would ask around, so does anyone know of a recommended shop for repairing a cam failure near Stevensville Michigan? Also, what price range is he looking at?

Thanks in advance!
Brad

His best bet would be to have it towed the 108 miles to Lombard, IL home of Eric Lehmann. He's done a few of those.

Otherwise he can put it up on E-bay and hope to get $1000 for it. Has the car been listed on V8SHO.com yet?

You don't just realign the sprocket. As mentioned if it is a true failure that happened while the engine was running most likley you may have at a minimum some valve impact on the pistons.
The cam needs to be replaced with a new one if the sprocket has completely let go. About $129.00 or so from a stealer. But then you have to check all valve clearances to insure you are within spec and look for any bent valves. Most likely there may be a couple.
Also, the mechanic, if he is to do this properly will need a Ford specific tool called the Rotunda kit for absolute alignment.
Hope that helps.
