Im gonna go pick up a 90 w/95,000 on it. It apparently has a fresh rebuilt tranny(he said he blew the previous one by trying to race with a brand new clutch)and a brand new stage 2 SPEC clutch. According to him, all it needs is a cv axle installed(which he has)and a fuel pump relay. I gotta go almost 200 miles to pick this car up and I was just looking for some good advice about what else to look for/check out/do when I see this car.

My original plan was to swap the tranny and clutch out of it into my 93 ATX.
Im kinda thinkin that this could be a good driver with a little work though,
so Im not to sure about the swap anymore. Im getting it for 700 bones.

Nice deal, at least it sounds like it.

Does it run right now? If not, I'd offer $500 when I got there. If you can't here the motor you won't know if there's other, possibly serious, problems.

Also, you want to make sure the trans is good.

But, on the other hand, you're spending $700. What do you expect?

If it REALLY has 95k (carfax) and he already blew the tranny, I'd be concerned with the rest of the drive train. I know we all buy cars from people who beat on them, but I don't know if I would buy a car from a guy who confessed to beating on it. But, whatever. If you do buy it I'd do the rod bearings right away.

My opinion is that any SHO with a good body is worth fixing, if you can buy it right. However, $700 is way too rich for me for a car in that situation. I wouldn't go more than $400.

If it doesnt run I wont even touch it. According to him the tranny and clutch have 0 miles since the rebuild. I should still be able to start it and hear it run without doing any damage even though it doesnt have tranny fluid in it or the cv installed, correct?

Rubydist...I know you're a veteran on here and You're opinion is valuable. I was kinda surprised when you said 400 though. 700 to me doesnt seem like a bad deal at all if in fact hes being straight up with me about it and it only needs the cv and relay.

Wait, I just read your post again and noticed the 95K miles.

I guess I wasn't paying attention. That car could have 295K miles on it for all you know. And I have to agree that if this guy blew a trans already, how abused is the motor??

Also, if you don't drive the car, how are you going to know if the trans is good?

I'd go $500 if it starts............$185 if it don't....

If any of you guys would like to see the ad for the car, go to SEATTLE CL. its under "1990 SHO".

I made it clear to the dude that I have to come along way to see the car, and I wont be happy if hes not being honest with me. But if I cant drive it I guess Im taking a huge chance.

When people are selling a "perfectly good" car that only needs a couple parts that they already have, I always wonder what is really the problem.

When I sell cars I make sure they are in tip-top shape with no issues or concerns so they can look their best and I can get what I want out of it.

I just doesn't make sense that all it needs is an axle, and he has the axle. Why doesn't he just install the axle and the fuel pump relay - and will have a operating vehicle, instead of trying to sell it like this?

That's my thought.

Well, it all depends on how valuable your time and this trip is.

I personally like going to look at cars, but 200 miles for an ify SHO? That is your call.

You just never know. It could be a gem with a lazy seller. Or it could be a POS that he is trying to pass off....

Heres kinda what Im thinkin...I really want the car to eventually do the conversion on my 93. He says that he has reciepts to prove the tranny rebuild and clutch. So even if the rest of the car is a POS, Im still getting what I really want.

Im probably not gonna do the conversion right away though(wait till I save some more money for the unexpected problems I run into when I do decide to do it)

I just loooked over the CL listing and it sounds like it's a young kid. Looks like the suspension in the back is shot too. The front is sitting like it's on stock springs, but the back looks like my car. I have Intrax springs. Does he have the original wheels? It's missing one. Man, those pictures SUCK!! You can't see the ODO either. If the #'s are out of line, chances are it's rolled over. And he doesn't care if you get mad. What are you gonna do? Beat his ass and go to jail? Yeah, right.

If he's so damn desperate to get rid of it, offer him $400 cash and go get it. I wouldn't drive it though. Hey, give me $1800 and you can have mine! J/K. I'm getting buried in this thing!

Oh, one more thing, there is NO WAY that car has 95K miles on it. He'd be showing it off.

Yeah I was kinda wonderin about the suspension too. Didnt know if it was the ground or a flat or what. I never thought about the #'s on the ODO lining up though. Thats a good way to tell. Ill probably pass on it.
I will offer him 400 and see what he says though.

Maybe Ill just keep saving for something nice to come along.

I think you're making the right choice. Hey, you already have $700. Save another $1K and you can probably find something pretty nice:omgsho:
