Well, I cracked the front driver side coil spring all the way across a week or so ago. Vancouver Island tends not to have much in the way of snow along the coasts, so when we got a bunch, a once a decade thing they tell me, the snow plow drivers do not really know how to handle it. They leave their blades about 3-4 inches above the road surface when plowing (don't want to scratch the road, you know), and as a result, compacted snow and ice never gets taken off. Of course, in a day or two, it has gotten pitted, in effect making for ice potholes. A Canadian invention, I am sure. I hit several the first day out after this mess, and broke the spring.

Looking at it, it had started to crack prior to the full break. A partial section of the break is discolored from weathering. I am thinking that this may be the cause of a very minor and previously unfindable front end noise that I have had for a few months. So, one more thing to try to check if you have a bounce squeak at low speeds that is not the sway bar bushings, the end links, the subframe connectors, the... ;)

I know on some Gen 3 Taurii there was a recall on springs. Don't know if you fit in that category.

I don't know. I do know that I am up to date on the recalls as per my last check into this, which was last spring. If something has happened since, I have not done it. Anyone have any info on Gen III coil spring recalls?
