Hey guys,

To add to my car woes the past few days (3 cars all not usable), the connection where the selection cable connects to the shifter broke. The pivot at the bottom of the shifter and the loop on the end of the cable are fine but whatever plastic bushing was holding the loop on the pivot has broken into a bunch of pieces. Anyone know what this part looked like previously or if it or some alternative is available? I did some searching and it sounds like it has been discontinued (not surprisingly). I think some people used zip ties or a length of hose to fix it but wasn't sure how permanent these would be.

I had a bunch of 3/8" ID rubber grommets (that fit a 1/2" hole) on hand. I squeezed one over the pivot and then squeezed the plastic loop at the end of the cable over that. It seems like a pretty tight fit and has worked so far but not sure if the force when downshifting is going to pop that thing off again. So if anyone has other more permanent solutions (aside from switching to a rod shifter :) ) I would love the hear them.

Thanks!

There is a Mopar clip for $2 that fixes that problem; mine has been that way for about 6 years and still tight. Try searching Mopar Clip and you should find a part number listed; if not, let me know and I can dig it up in the file drawer.

I did find that but it sounded like it was for the pivot closer to the drivers (left) side. Does it work for both?

Mopar clip

Just as a heads up, this clip (part #04340118) appears to be discontinued by Mopar as well. I went to a dealership to see if they had any and the parts guys said it was on backorder with no availability date. He also said that usually when they have that kind of status they are no longer making them.

So far my rubber grommet solution seems to be holding up. I drove the car around the last few days and didn't have it pop off or visually come loose. I did though add a hose clamp to the mix as a backup to the rubber grommet solution. It's placed in basically the same location as the zip tie in these pics of the mopar clip fix.
