Well I've put 9,000 miles on my car since I bought it last August and now it's developed a shimmy when I step on the brakes. I'm going to guess that I had the common rotor warp that seems to plague everyone else. At slow speeds it isn't noticeable but anywhere past 45 mph and if you try to stop or slow down quickly the steering wheel starts to go back and forth. It feels like it's more from the rear but I couldn't really tell you. Doesnt shake if you just slow down with out braking, just when I use the brakes. Sometimes it gets really bad and I have to let off the brake and re-apply them.

Maye it's something else but my intuition tells me not. What parts are needed or recommended? I was just going to pick up 4 new rotors and a new set of pads and go from there.

Also my ABS light is on... maybe that has something to do with it? It's been on since I got it though.

Oh and when I bought it they said it had new brakes... right...

I suggest you go with orignal replacement Ford Pads, not Motorcraft or other aftermarket ones. I did my front brakes back in November and used the Ford pads with Autozone Duralast rotors. No shimmy and great brake performance. From the research that I've done on rotors and personal experience, the cheaper ones are just as good as higher end ones. I think the key is the pads. The aftermarket pads for our cars have a smaller surface area which I believe causes them to work harder and heat up faster, eventually warping your rotors. You can find the original Ford pads at fastpartsnetwork.com and they generally run around $80. Good luck! :thumb:

If you're going to Autozone, the Rotors from Duralast or Valucraft are pretty much the same. The only real difference is the warranty.

Only the Duralast Gold pads are the correct size for the SHO, if we're going to AutoZone. The cheaper pads and the ceramic pads are SLO pads. I used to work there and checked them all. The really expensive set (performance brake pads from somewhere I don't remember) dust way too much, and don't help enough to warrant the price.

I've heard the rotors are the same as well. I've heard not having the wheels torqued down in the right sequence might have something to do with it as well. As in tightening down to half torque, then full torque, and then something else... anyways I read that in Popular Mechanics.

Yea not a big thing on my mind right now as I have my other "old" car right now for class and my car is sitting in the shed.

Just wanted some products and names... which I've gotten so far, THANKS!

If you buy cheap pads you will pay later for it. The Ford pads are good but not cheap. If you have a shimmy now you probably can burn that out of the rotors by doing several 60-5 mph full abs kicking stops.

His ABS isn't working, and from experience, bedding in pads when ABS isn't working on these cars blows monkey ****. :madflame:

I've tried it several times. I figured several hard times braking to see if it'd work itself out but no luck. I've also tried to slow steadily with a modest amount of pressure to try to correct the warpage. Again, no luck.

I dont recommend the Duralast Gold pads....they arent very good and IMO they put off WAY too much dust. Stick with the Ford pads....

As somebody else suggested, don't use Motorcraft or cheap pads or you will suffer later, use only Ford Pads.
I think this is the part number: F8DZ-2200-AA.

Anybody know any other place to get the Ford pads other than Ford? Maybe save a few bucks. If not, please tell me thats for both wheels (I know that is how they usually come, but with prices on Ford parts I wouldn't be surprised).
