Don't know where else to post this. Thought I'd ask in everyones opinon which Gen SHO is the best daily driver, in terms of comfort and reliability. I use to think the 2nd my self. But the Gen 3 ones are really starting to grow on me.

I'm partial to the gen 2 personally. I love everything about it, from how it feels to how it smells; I love a well worn in car. When you consider age and depreciation (cams & trannys aside) common logic would determine the gen 3 to be the best since it's newest, and I do love gen 3s too. My experience does not include gen 1's, as I haven't owned one yet.

Ther words reliable and SHO are in essence, mutually exclusive terms that cannot be used on the same sentance. THe primary reasons for ownership of these vehicles is not everyday reliability, rather;

- in order to build up a huge supply of tools, repair items and spare parts, most of which will never be used on any other vehicle in the future.
- to have an excuse to regularly escape to the garage, where beer is coincidentally stored, to avoid domestic duties such as changing diapers, cleaning bathrooms and running up to the 7/11 for tampons.
- so we can exchange stories on forums with others who similarly had to call a cab at 2am when their SHO would not start in the parking lot of the **********, and the dancer went home instead.

I go with the Gen 3 SHO. I've owned two Gen 2's and one Gen 3. The Gen 2's are a little but more rough which makes them fun to rod around on & are much more easily to modify, but as far as a daily cruiser that is much more comfortable & fun to drive I go with the Gen 3. The Gen 3 exhaust note is WAAAAAYY better and the overall design inside & out is much more executive looking. The only thing I didn't like about the Gen 3's is the stereo/hvac unit and the deletion of power side bolsters for the seats.

Gen 3 with welded cams. They are comfy, ride nice, and are actually quite reliable with the cams welded. Gen 1 and 2 do ride a little more rough and the seats aren't as nice to your rear end. That said, I use my 93 atx as my DD and have no complaints about the ride and such (they do get better gas mileage too), I know the ride could be better, but I took it on a 3.5 hour trip this weekend (one way) and I was perfectly fine. The only complaint I have is there is always something wrong with it, I am constantly maintaining it and there just seems to always be an issue. For example after that trip, my alternator died, and now it sits in the parking lot with a fried alternator.

I like my Gen3, its my daily driver and i do about 30 miles a day going to school. It has a nice ride, and the seats make it more comfortable. When my SHO was in the shop I had to take my truck to school and i could feel the difference. My back ached the whole way and back. I couldnt wait to get out of that thing. Plus I love the sound of the V8.

My gen 4 will get 30 on the hwy...

I assumed he was talking about sho's since he said in the first post "which gen sho is the best" in which case a gen 3 sho does not get as good as a gen 2;)

I say gen 2's... motors are for the most part rock solid, and I say gen 2 vs gen 1 because of some of the older gen 1's having the smaller clutch, and the cable shifter. Both kind of big things if they break on ya... so the 2 would be a little more reliable I would think.

My gen 4 is an SHO

we'll I don't knwo what you did to make a V8 sho get that kinda mileage, hats off to you my friend, I know noone that has a gen 3 sho and gets that kinda mileage. I also am pretty sure he's not going to put a sho engine in a gen 4 taurus so he's pretty much stuck with a gen 3 sho that gets mid to low 20's. But point being that all around a gen 1 or 2 is going to always be able to do better in the gas mileage department.;)

He took a gen 4 taurus and put a gen 3 sho engine in it;)

key phrase here " Best daily driver" which IMO is the 3rd gen hands down for comfort, maybe most reliable if the cams are welded, id also recommend a bigger trans cooler, cheap insurance.
