I bought a relocation kit from midwestsho a while ago and I have a few questions. It's the same kit sold by summit.

1) Where do I ground the starter soleniod?
2) I don't think any bolts were included to secure the box to the car, only the J bolts. Can anyone confirm this?
3) I think I mispalced the hold down for the battery. Anyone know where I can get one?
4) I was thinking of running the positive cable on the interior. Do I have to remove the rear seat?
5) If so, how do I remove the rear seat?
6) How do I crimp the terminal to the battery cable?

I think that's it for now. I may have more. I want this to go smoothly so I'm sorry for all the questions.

TIA!

It's probably a little different for the older gens, but I recently relocated my battery in the '97. I crimped the terminals at first with a big hammer. This worked all right, but I then figured out that cranking it in a vise makes it turn out much cleaner.

I ran my positive cable through the interior and I simply removed the cushions from the back seat. Someone with a Gen II should be able to be more specific.

I grounded the negative cable under the hood to a metal hole under where the battery tray used to be.

I didn’t use the J-bolts. For some reason I couldn’t close the battery box if they were holding the battery down.
What I did to mount the battery is:
1. Get an extra tie down strap similar to what came with the battery box. (Marine Store)
2. Get a metal plate, I used something at home depot from the ventilation duct section.
3. Cut 2 thin slots so you pass the strap through the metal plate and around the battery box.
4. (Optional) I coated the plate with a rubberizer to help keep the batter steady.
4. Find a place in the trunk, I used the area next to the passenger wheel well, and sheet metal screw the plate to the floor. Use plenty of screws.
4. Place the battery in the box and use Styrofoam to pad the battery so it doesn’t move. DONT use the little plastic divider that comes with the box it will break. I already shattered the side of 1 box because the battery started moving when that divider broke.
5. Take the other tie down strap (the one not installed in the plate) and strap the battery into the box BEFORE you put the battery box cover on. This also helps to keep the battery from moving inside the box. Again use Styrofoam to fill any gaps.
6. Now place the top on the battery box and then strap the whole thing to the plate.
My battery/box hasn't move one bit since I've done this. I can try to take some pictures if you want to do it this way.

Answers to other questions:
1. I grounded the starter to the body and the battery to the body. I also ran a smaller gauge wire from the ECU ground directly to the battery ground.
4. Yes you have to remove the rear seat and it doesn’t hurt to remove the front seat too. Make sure you use Grommets anytime you pass the power cable through metal. Loom the wire in anyplace you feel it could wear through. Also, GET A FUSE FOR THE POWER WIRE. Waytek or Wayteck.com carries large high amp fuses and holders. This fuse needs to be as close to the positive battery terminal as possible.
5. Put your knee on the edge of the bottom part of the seat (part that faces the back of the front seat) and push in and pull up. Once the bottom half is out of the way take the 2 bolts holding the upper back seat out and pull up on the upper half.
6. I soldered the ends on, because I didn’t have a big enough crimper at the time. I packed the terminal full of solder and used a torch to melt all the solder. I did this till I had about half the terminal full. Then I carefully plunged the stripped end of the power cable into the solder. You probably want some other people around to help with this step.

Things to note:
I messed up my first attempt to install the battery box (different method different location) which resulted in me destroying the side of the box. I had to get a new box from a marine shop so my box is much smaller than what comes with the summit kit.

Well I found the hold down that was provided with my kit. I had an idea though. Can't I use the stock negative cable to ground the starter solenoid?

I think I will take pics of my install and make a guide. It shouldn't be too hard.

Where can I get some rubber gromits?

this is true. my first attempt at a trunk mounted battery proved to not be up to the task of a roll over and the battery ripped out and shorted on trunk lid, not good.

here is a picture of the install on my current SHO, i have a 3/8" bolt going though the unibody channel to keep things where they should be. this is the stock battery frame.

I ran my power wire for my stereo out the side of the engine bay, into the fender well and then through the hole for the radio antenna.

If you don't want to do that, there is a grommet above the clutch pedal that is just below the wiper motor on the firewall side. That seems to be the other common place. I've seen some cars that had a factory harness running through there, and others had a blank grommet instead. I can't recall if they were MTX/ATX, or Gen 1/2, though.
