I dont know how this happened nor have ever seen it before.

Somehow, the mounting point (on the frame of the car, not on the spindle) for the bar that goes from the drivers rear spindle towards the front of the car has broken. The bar itself seems to be fine. It still has the nut on the end. But, it is pushed forward allowing the rear tire to pivot and rub against the wheel well. Its hard to explain, and my batteries are dead in the digitial camera for a pic. There should be no codes to pull... :D

When I take my foot and push on the tire, the whole assembly moves forward and backwards. (Tire, spindle, etc)

This is on my '94 MTX...

What is this piece called? Does anyone have one they want to ship? Can I buy it new at a local parts store? Is it SHO specific?

Let me know if I need to explain more... :bonk:

You are talking about the round collar that the strut rod bushing ties into at the engine subframe. There is a TSB about it, and Ford (or others) will remove the bushings and weld the collar to the subframe. If the situation is bad enough, it may require a subframe replacement.

I have had mine welded twice already, and it's just broken again with hitting a massive pothole with my 95 ATX, the 17" wheels, solid aluminum subframe bushings, Tokicos & Eibachs - stiff ride comes at a cost.

I have a feeling from what I already know is that the rear strut rod mounting point is broken. And I'll guess it's at the point where you would weld the shortie subframe connectors to. Just another thought would be to find out if the bushing is shot or the actual mounting point is broken away. I'm someone could fab up a new piece and weld it into place if the mounting box actuall did take the damage.

Thanks all for the replies!

After looking at autozone and advance's website and your responses, I believe its the bushing (a 2-piece design). The circular mounting point is still in place. (The hole is holding the strut bar up off the ground.) When I looked at it, it seems like the 2 half-bushing have come apart and the one has slide down the shaft towards the spindle. The other side has pushed forward allowing the rear tire to press forward.

Does this make sense? Or am I smoking some good *******...and am way off??

Those bushings were only like 10-15 bucks...I hope its that!

Fred - its in the rear, so I dont think it would be the engine subframe...correct?
