What are characteristics of a bad fuel injector or injectors? What do they do to your performance?

Umm, have no clue but my taurus is slower then yours wink wink . I dont know whats wrong kinda makes me want to headbang headbang headbang headbang , after today, we replaced the Y-pipe, new fuel filter. What ever the problem, i'll help you fix it boink well maybe .

Anyone know of places to get injectors from? SHOShop has them but they want core and my O-rings are bad so no core. A week of hunting and I can't find the right O-rings in stock anyplace. So I figure new clean injectors might work the best.

Is it true that you can use Mustang 5.0 injectors and MAF meters cuz all that electronic stuff was made around the same time?

I seriously doubt you can use a stang maf, its tuned for a 5.0 v8. As for the injectors, im not sure, i doubt it...

I thought that i heard somewhere that if you buy an after market maf for a stang you can bolt your sensor into the housing and get more airflow with an 80mm rather then a 55mm stock. This can happen because the electronics were similar and the size isnt different and i dont see how 8 cylinders matter when air enters in your engine as long as it reads how much air there is, be it 6 or 8 cylidners its all the same amount of air though the same size of housing. Maybe I tired and dont know what Im talkin about and Im saying what i think and have no proof. But somewhere in a 5.0 mag i thought i read that. Can someone correct me if im wrong.

Could you detail the problems with your engine's driveability? It may not be your injectors and you would be throwing money and labor at something that doesn't solve your problem.

The car does rev through the rpm band very quickly and when i try to accelerate it bogs down and acts like its going to die. I drop my exhaust, didn't help. Put new cats and o2 sensors on it, that didn't help to the nasty air filter out and i also changed out my fuel filter. All this added little to no different in my poor performance i think the engine is choking up somewhere. When it idles the car runs fine but the when i try to accelerate thats when it bogs. Help me im going insane! headbang headbang headbang headbang headbang

have u check ur plug wells for oil? pull out the spark plug wire boot and see what u got.

I think you need to take a more logical approach to diagnosing your power loss rather than just taking guesses and throwing money at parts that may be good and not the source of your problem... As people on this forum are fond of saying, 80-90% of fixing something is finding out what is wrong.

The first thing you should do if you haven't already is read your codes. If you don't know how, there are three sites in my signature with simple instructions on how to do it with something as basic as a paperclip or short piece of wire.

The next step is to address any codes you find. Don't assume that a sensor code indicates a bad sensor, it might just indicate that the sensor has detected an out-of-range condition. You can post your codes here and we'll help you figure out what to do about each of them.

How is the overall maintenance of your car? How many miles, when were the plugs last replaced, when was the last (if any) 60K service?

The more detailed information you give us, the better we'll be able to help you identify and correct the problems!

All the parts i have put on my car have come off a used car. A parts car if you will. I read my codes and i got the pip wire 13 i think and speed sensor 29 im not sure on the numbers. I checked my plugs and wires. All seem to be ok. The car has 134k miles and i dont think she was well taken care of. I would suprise me if it had a 60k performed on it. How hard is it to do a 60k im sure it needs it and how does a 60k even affect the performance, by the timing? any way i took it into a shop and they said they thought it was a plugged exhaust. that is why i took the good sensors and pipe that my friend has for parts lying around. So dont blame me. I was in hope that the shop was right and decide to do it myself. thats what the car acts like, something clogging or choking. Thats why i was wonderin in the first place if injectors can choke up your car like that.Im so lost i dont even know where i am. headbang headbang headbang

Im sure you can use mustang injectors, crap my buddies mustang injectors would fit on my other buddies Trans am. My buddy got ford Motorsport 30lb injectors for 220 i think from summit.

If you want to use oversize injectors like that, assuming they fit (yeah, it makes sense to me that mustang 30 lb injectors would fit) you will need an LPM programmed to take those injectors into account. Good idead would be to talk to either Ted Breaux or Tom G. at SHO Shop.

try rerunning your codes and get us the numbers. a 60k is not that hard, just time consuming. there are plenty of people and resources here to help you through it.

As fascinating as this discussion of substitute injectors is, the injectors have not yet been identified as the problem. In any case, any injectors other than stock require machining of the fuel rail bosses for them to fit.

As BlackOnBlack suggested, re-run your codes and let us know all of the exact codes you find -- get a pen and piece of paper to record them while they're being output. You should also run the KOER tests, including a cylinder balance test. While injector failure is rare, it's not impossible; but numerous other causes could be responsible for your power loss. If a 60K has never been done, you may have a timing belt that has stretched or jumped a sprocket which may effect engine operation negatively, or valves which are way out of spec and not opening enough to allow proper intake and exhaust flow, or spark plugs and/or wires which are not delivering the proper spark current to the combustion process, etc. etc. etc.

You said you 'checked' your plugs and wires. What exactly did you do to 'check' them? What make and model plugs are installed? Worn plugs and/or wires can also lead to your power loss. A new set of plugs from FordPartsNetwork.com is about $32 shipped to your door

If you're still lost and don't want to try to find the problem on your own, you might want to see if you can find a local SHO mechanic via the forum who can diagnose and repair your problems.

Sounds to me like it could possibly be a bad fuel pump. The symptoms you describe are classic for a dying turbo Mopar fuel pump.

You might try checking your fuel pressure.
