I'm currently disasembling my ax4s out of my 93 SLO that experienced massive slipping in forward gears.

Anyway, I found:

The pressure/wave plate in the forward clutch drum was cracked in half

There was some burning on the forward clutch steels...the frictions looked good.

One of the low intermediate servo spring retaining clips was broken into three pieces....so it looks like the low/intermediate servo was non-functional.

The low/intermediate band looked a little scorched....long dark streaks on the friction material.

I believe this tranny was rebuilt fairly recently since the VSS, MLPS looked brand new....also the case was relatively clean. I think the low/intermediate servo retaining clip exploded and that wreaked the havoc on the tranny.

Anyway, went and removed the reverse drum and the front planet assembly....the inner needle bearing on the front planet (the needle bearing that goes on the inside of the front planet shaft) was broken with the rollers and plastic cage scattered about. I am wondering if anyone can help me locate a Ford part number for this needle bearing so that I can try and buy it locally. Ive found it here:

Just donet want to wait a week or so to have it delivered through the mail.

Also, Ive ordered the improved Sonnax hardened retaining clips for the low/intermediate servo.

Gonna install those when I rebuild this thing this coming weekend. Might be a good thing to consider during a AX4S rebuild for a SHO.
