I have a 1996 & have a few questions.

#1, for those who do not know, there is a diagnostic mode for the EATC you can access by depressong Floor, OFF, AUTO. It's a little tricky, but press floor first. Then I think it is off, auto..Or maybe auto & off at the same exact time. Play with it & you will see the display go --- It will then run a diag. usually within 15 seconds codes will appear which can be referenced at a dealer. You can exit the mode by pressing off after the codes have been displayed, or after it displays 000, 888 (which indicates no faults were found) you can clear the codes by pressing the front cabin defrost button.

Here is my question- I have had a problem recently with the A/C only working part of the time. When it does work the clutch remains engaged at all times (the system is fully charged & the low pressure side is VERY cold. I know it is electrical, I suspect the CCRM module (only found on 1996 & 1997 models) but cannot confirm it.

Here is the kicker- There seems to be an additional diagnostic mode that I stumbled upon in the EATC. It is accessed by pressing
Floor, OFF, Max AC (again you will have to play around to access it) I am showing several codes-

d 05, 09, 0C, 73.

I have no idea what they are & Ford is reluctant to assist. They want $$$ to tell me my AC is ont working (duh) Any out there with information??

Wish I could give you more exact info.

Most here are owners, etc of Gen 1 and gen II cars. Your's is a Gen III.

Here's a resource that may be of sigificant help to you. Check out www.v8sho.com . They have many postings similar to www.shotimes.com including a "Care and Feeding" section. They also have a mailing list that you can subscribe to. Hopefully, there you can find a wider range of knowledgeable V8 SHO owners to discuss problems with.

I looked this up in my 98 Ford service CD (wife has a 98 Contour). Probably applies to your 96 as well:

c. The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.

d. To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a dashed line in the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.

e. If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.

f. If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, refer to the Symptom Chart Condition: EATC System Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.

g. To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent DTCs and then turn OFF (display blank).

h. The exit self-test and clear all DTCs, press F-Defrost button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC system will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.

Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF). Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles (after the intermittent condition occurs).

My question was on the new diagnostic mode I found, though. Floor/off/max A/C I need to know what diagnostic that is for... codes 05, 09, OC, 73

My normal EATC diag is fine (no faults)

There is no info in the Ford service CD about any other diagnostic mode.

Sorry, but what you are doing might not be a valid test of the system However, it's always possible you've stumbled onto an undocumented (to the normal service channel) engineering test routine.
