ATX question

I own a 93 ATX and got a chance to buy a 94 trans. I am just thinking of picking it up and have it rebuild or try it my self. I have been doing a lot of reading on some of the guys rebuilds and etc. But my question is, the trans being a 94, will I accomplish getting a better trans for my 93 or are they the same thru 93 to 95. My 93 trans now seems to be sifting hard into second and smooth thru the rest of the gears. But thinking it would be nice to have a good rebuilt on hand.

the 94-95 SHO trans has some significant upgrades compared to the 93 version, including more splines on the input shaft so you need the 94-95 torque converter too.

rebuilding the atx is not for the faint of heart - a little piece of dirt can make all your work be in vain. buy a rebuild manual and study it carefully before you commit to doing it yourself.

Thanks for the advice Ruby. Picked up the trans last night. The guy showed me the car that he had removed it from and the odometer was 122,000 miles. It came with the torque converter. I offered him 50.00 bucks and he said sure and we loaded it up. Check around to see what a rebuild will cost and check here on the site to see what I need to improve the trans such a kits and stuff. I have to say, for a small trans, it is a heavy bugger.

If you have it rebuilt - make sure they replace hard parts like the chain and sprockets, pistons, etc. as well as all the soft parts.

Also, get yourself a DU41 PCM, to get the shifting points of the 94-95. Keeping the 93 computer could cook that rebuild. Find yourself one of those and you should be good to go.

Yes, I was reading a search and found out about the "trans go shift kit". So that will be one of my priorities since it will be taken apart. And the DU41 PCM will be a must. Have to keep my eye out for that.
