Should this just be something that gets replaced right when you buy a gen 3? Is there a specific brand to buy for this?

Thanks.

Most folks get one off a Gen 2 with the ATX. It does a great job of cooling and why Ford used a smaller one to cool the Gen 3 is beyond me. There is a How-to over on the V8SHO forum. I've done it to three of them and it helps tremendously. Go for it!

Thanks. So an aftermarket atx cooler from Advance Auto Parts or something wouldn't even really do what needs to be done - ie. have a bigger unit on there?

Once you see how large the Gen 2 one is, you'll be fine. Like I said, the stock Gen 3 one is a total joke and damn near pointless. I've seen larger power steering coolers! I have a spare one here but I don't have a pic of it. I'll see if I can't post a pic of one tomorrow or so. I'm sure someone else will chime in though too if they have a pic.

Anyone will work. You add it inline with the stocker. The Gen II is easily obtained cheaply at boneyards.

I used a Hayden aftermarket cooler. Removed the fittings on the trans and ran 3/8 rubber line to it. Dropped my fluid temps 50 degrees in July. The whole thing cost me about 40 bucks.

I have a thread that I think is still around with how to replace the lines per SHOZ123's recommendations.

Gen II cooler here, bypassed the radiator, stock cooler is used too.
