With only a 7.0" wide rim you are limited to a 225 tire, so you choices are basically;

225/50-17 @ 25.86" tall, near stock height
225/45-17 @ 24.97" tall, shorter for better gearing effect

235/45-17 @ 25.33" tall, but most manufactures require at least a 7.5" wide rim for this size

I've got 225-45zr17's on my 17x7 and absolutely love em. They are the Falken Azienis St115's that I bought from DiscountTire.com-great tire and wheel dealer. I got them with free shipping and they arrived within 2 days of ordering them-super quick!! thumb

With:

215/50/17 your speedo would be 2.6% too fast

speedo reads 60 mph, actually would be 58.4

225/50/17 your speedo would be 1.1% too fast

speedo reads 60 mph, actually would be 59.3

225/45/17 your speedo would be 4.5% too fast

speedo reads 60 mph, actually would be 57.3

235/45/17 your speedo would be 3.2% too fast

speedo reads 60 mph, actually would be 58.1

245/45/17 your speedo would be 1.8% too fast

speedo reads 60 mph, actually would be 58.9

Don't rule out 215/50/17. They look awesome on a 17x7 wheel, don't bulge out the side of the wheel at all, and are just slightly shorter than stock so they'll give better gearing affect like DeaconBlue said.

I have Dunlop SP Sport 4000 in that size and they are awesome tires. They'll be replaced by the Yokohama ES100 tires in that same size when the Dunlops wear out.

For a 17x7" rim on a SHO, you should use a 225 width and either a 45 or 50 series. The 225/50 is close to stock size, but the selection is more limited, especially when it comes to high-performance tires. The 225/45 is a more common size, but it's quite a bit smaller. Many people use this size though, and it works just fine.

However, I think a 215 and even 225 is really not enough tire to support a car as big as the SHO.

Good point Mark. I just personally consider a 215 tire a bit too narrow for a SHO, so I left it off the list.
Completely untrue. Keep in mind the section width of a 215 tire is almost 96% the section width of a 225. A lot of advantages to a 215/50-17 tire that go unlooked. If you want to get more power to the ground then get a Quaife, IMHO. Better off doing that than overtiring the car but I know a lot of people will have a hard time buying that.

Check the load ratings. 215/50-17 has enough for a Slo, but not enough load rating for a SHO. Remember, for the same section width, as the height of the sidewall shrinks so does the load rating.
