So I went the Ford dealership today to order a new clutch quadrant because I assume my self-adjuster is shot. I've put in several new clutches over the years and can never get the self-adjuster to work, which has resulted in pre-mature failure of the clutch. I'm putting brand new Fidanza flywheel and SPEC Stage 2+ clutch kit in (for the second time) and I don't want any problems anymore.

Unfortunately, the guys at the local dealership found that the part had been discontinued and there were no more left anywhere in the U.S. after doing a search. One of the guys there owns 3 SHO's and has never tried it but he has been told to use a Mustang clutch quadrant kit, which I've heard a few people suggest before. Has anyone on this forum actually tried one of these kits?????

I went on to Summitracing.com and found these: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntt=clutch+quadrant&searchinresults=false&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&N=700+115

None of the kits seems to come with the white "pawl", but I'm not sure if I'll need a new one or not. I had looked at my blue quadrant teeth and the teeth on the pawl over a year ago and from what I could physically see the teeth on both parts looked okay. I'm willing to try anything that should do the job, but it doesn't look like any of the quadrants on ANY of the kits have teeth on them, so I'm not sure if they would work with the factory pawl.

What can anyone tell me about using these kits on the Taurus?????

Much thanks,
Andrew Grayson

EDIT: I'm also using a new clutch cable, so if the cable that comes with these kits won't work with our cars that's no big deal. What's this cable firewall adjuster that some of the kits include?? Is that something I don't need or can't use??

This converts the self-adjusting quadrant to a manual adjusting cable system. You take out the old toothed quadrant and pawl and put in the new one piece quadrant. You then need to have a way to manually adjust the cable for it to work. There's enough Mustangs out there to justify tooling up a custom, adjustable cable. For us, I think we're out of luck.

The firewall adjuster might be a way to add some adjustment to our cable system. It would have to fit our cable surround and fit into the firewall.
