Had this idea like everyone for awhile but finally started it. Here are some pics of the progress so far. http://photobucket.com/albums/v618/92SHO16/LED Tail Project/

The panel has 72 5mm 13,000mcd(average) LEDs. I forgot to snap some pics of the PWM circuits but thats what will control the brightness for the parking light function. any one who is interested in such LED projects i suggest checking out HiDplanet, Thats where i found out about Pulse Width Modulation and better LEDs(superflux).

so when installed, will it look like an array of LEDs at night, or will the entire tail light be illuminated?

I have not mocked everything up yet because this is a spare set of tail lights, i have another set on my car that are niteshaded that the LED's will go into so the housings were more for measurements for the perf board, i will probably mount the boards and set the lense on hopefully sometime next week. with the semester ending ive been working on this when i can.

i mean after the LEDs are mounted, what will it look like through the lense. separate LEDs or just nice bright tails? i'm asking because i'd almost prefer bright tails to being able to see the individual LEDS so i was owndering what the final outcome will look like
