Alright im in Waco and ive had some mechanical gremlins with the steering on my sho as of this last weekends autocross run. Needless to say im afraid to drive it on the actual run but i am confident under normal driving. What i was wanting to know is exactly what yall do as in where u go etc. Ive been told yall end up in austin( is that right?) And then you eat or something...... The reason i ask is because if its possible id like to meet yall in austin if thats what yall do so i can meet yall and see the other shos etc. Austins not a bad drive from here but im afriad to go as far as S/A or even more so try to make the run. I dont know what is wrong with it and it could be perfectly harmless and probably be fine on the run. But i dont want something to go wrong and then i rain on everyones parade. Im just trying to prevent something from breaking.

I autcrossed it and did some extremely aggressive steering antics on it and ive got yokahoma avs 225 55s on it so im sure it has to work a little bit. Anyways at slow speeds it now makes this horrible popping and grinding noise turning left or right and its like it only does it in a certain spot. Im sure its something simple but i havent had time to investigate it, only hear it. For that reason and i also need some valve cover seals badly and i dont wanna cook my wires. When i autocross i suck them dry and then go and suck them out again to drive it during the week. As long as im not ******* it they dont fill up..... I know i know i need to hurry up and do it but im waiting to buy another sho thats actually in austin and once i get that car to drive ill take greenbean off the road to fix it. But for the time being ill be sucking oil.... I guess for 125k i cant complain..... Anyways if yall could fill me in on this id appreciate it, im ignorant on the runs cuz ive never done one. Thanks guys, Karson

I thought that too but they are brand new and theres no slack when i jack the car up and pull on the wheel(wabble test) I was told it was the strut bushing.

jack her up and check out the whole front end. Could be just a loose endlink. Check tie rods, ball joint..etc.

Hey, ive been planning on ordering some endlinks anyway so thats not a problem then. As far as the rest goes it looks fine, nothing loose at all and theres no movement at all when i do the wiggle test on both wheels. I guess what ill do is replace endlinks and strut bushings as i have no clue if they have been touched or not and see what happens. The colder it is out, the louder it is. Dont know if that makes a difference or not. Later guys, Karson

i did the same test when i suspected a bad wheel bearing. everything checked out fine until i removed the brake caliper. thats when i found a 1/2" of movement in the wheel bearing.

How about the CV boots? That's where my noise came from. Also, make sure your power steering fluid is full, perhaps even replaced, which is an easy task.

jerms, your gonna have to gain a couple (hundred) pounds before you can start mocking our next president, Larry the Cable Guy.

That guy is funny as heck and portrays half of my family. My question is does he really talk like that all the time or does he just agg it on during the skits since it does sound funny. Hes like Hank Hill, his voice makes him! I was blessed with the talent of mocking hank hill and dale on that show perfectly. Too bad i wont make it far in life that way though

I know this is a very late reply...but did you ever figure out your problem with the steering? I'm thinking it could be power steering related...like the rack and pinion or something? Especially if it's louder when it's cold outside...Just a thought that's all.

One problem the SHO's front end has been identified with is contact between the upper coil spring pad's outside edge and the inside of the strut tower. This condition makes a rubber on steel groaning and popping noise. This is aggravated when the upper strut mount is moved outboard to move the camber less negative with a lowered suspension.

Ford's solution was a 1/8" thick "spacer" plate that fit on the top of the upper strut mounting bracket during installation. The intent was to provide some additional clearance between the spring pad and the strut tower.

To determine if this is your car's problem, use some silicone grease on a fingertip and slide your hand up into the wheel well and between the spring pad and the inside of the strut tower. The most common area of contact is the forward outer portion of the tower.

If this easy check does not solve your front end noises you should have the suspension and steering inspected as soon as possible as any failures could endanger your life and the lives of others.

The upcoming Winter Run is in the North Texas area west of DFW around Possum Kingdom Lake. The Spring Run has been traditionally executed in the Austin Hill Country.
