Performancered,
If your automatic trans was just rebuilt, and it allows the engine to rev and then kicks in, you have one or more serious problems inside the trans. Get back to the shop that did the work and get them to fix it right.
Just a couple of possibilities;
One or both bands are not adjusted right, or the valve that applies pressure to one or both bands is sticking in the bore, then pops free and the trans bangs into gear;
A piston in a clutch pack is sticking in the bore and not applying pressure to the clutches, you rev up and increase hydrolic pressure and the trans bangs into gear. Maybe a spring was put into the trans the wrong way round, especially in a clutch pack.
The springs were put in the wrong position in the valve body (if they took it apart to clean it!), or one or more check balls got left out.
These are just a couple of possibilities based on the limited information you provided. The explanations are overly simplistic and in less than the best technical terms.
The real point hear is that if you paid for a rebuild, you did not get the job done right. The shop that took your money has an obligation to make it right, if you are still in the warranty period.
If you got the trans rebuilt 6 months ago and spent the summer on the NHRA circuit, well that is another story! rangerj
