Can the guys that are running Vortec's on the front post pictures and a discription of what you did for your air filter and inlet? What you cut out and what you used? Are you happy with it?

Thanks

I run a 90 degree sweep down the side of the fender with the K&N right behind the bumper support. I'll upload a pic later...too dark and dreary with the rain right now.

Did you do anything to beef up the unibody to compensate for the removed material? We were playing around with one of the parts cars (mocking up different options), when a friend came by who works in the body and fender business. He saw some of our options and just about had a coronary. He really did not want to see any cutting into the boxed area where the fender mounts.

To fit a decent intake, you almost have to cut into the reinforced boxed area. I really like the intake options you guys have. They are a huge improvement over the SHOshop filter on the inlet, but I am torn with the structural issues. I am not saying what you did is bad or wrong. I am just having a hard time cutting up the car  .

Maybe I need to hire a SHO surgeon. Or maybe just some pain killers before making the cuts  . Then again, that might make my cuts even worse.

Thanks for the input and help guys. Keep it coming. and help me come to grips with cutting on my car.

We only cut a hole big enough into the fenderwell to do two 90 degree PVC pipe.

Then put in a 13 inch K&N big monster filter.

No driving when its raining or through big puddles!!!

I only use one 90 so I can drive through the rain and in puddles because the bumper support is a buffer. Mine was hacked up when I got it, so I thought, what the heck, whats the difference if I enlarge the hole alittle more.

Also mine is EMT, not PVC.

Man that would suck to change a bulb on the rh headlight. Seems like everything needs to be taken off the car just to do one repair...no matter what it is. Okay so im exaggerating- a little- but there is so much more R&R involved it seems with the shos. Glad i haven't found a harder car.

What about what Gary M suggested in Terry's post, except do it on the intake of the blower. He suggested welding a tight radius 90 directly onto the blower. You could then run a short piece and another 90 into the fender well. Granted, you would use at least 3 90s before you had enough room inside the fender, but you won't have to cut into the inner fender.
