Hey guys, i got a stupid question. With the correct wiring harness for the aftermarket radio, could i just take the stock ford radio and cd player out and slid a new alpine or pioneer or something in it while still using all of the factory wiring, amp, and sub. I got school in 2 days and not tons of money so i don't want to have to re-wire anything except plug in a new harness or something. i don't want to have to by pass the amp, and i like how the car sounds stock so i'm just wondering if its possible to plug in a new radio head and get the benefits of mp3 cd's and stuff thanks

Instead of using all the factory stuff, grab the 2nd clip back behind the stock head unit and wire your after market head unit directly to the speakers. Its cheaper b/c you only buy the harness for behind the cd player. Then you just unplug the amps in the trunk, and your all set. Drawback - you get no sub, but the other speakers sound so much better, that you prolly couldnt tell.

If you want to use the factory amps, you will have to buy the harness for behind the cd player and the harness for the amps in the trunk I believe....and in MY opinion (so no one jumps down my a$$) it sounds much better the first way I descibed.

Your car, your call...

hmm, the speakers in my old 93 sho equipped with the JBL system looked pretty wimpy, the magnets on them are smaller then the ones on premium sound equipped cars. Can they still reproduce good lows?

I dunno, i have an aftermarket HU and kept the sub and amp wired in. With infinity speakers, i love it, its all i ever could need.

I have an amp bypass harness, the only reason i didnt use it is because the infinity's have such good bass they were making my door panels buzz like crazy. :bonk:

Just head to Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc. and get the harness for your car. With a nice Pioneer DEH-16 and stock speakers it sounded BETTER than stock, even with the amp bypassed. The JBL speakers could be better, but they're not all THAT wimpy. Pioneer 5x8s are good speakers and can be had for about $50. For later that is, for the rear deck, 6.5" door speaker are about $30, and the combo sounds nice....

Nope... The rear deck in an SHO and any other similiar year Taurus is a 5"x8" speaker. In gen IIIs the deck and door speakers are all 5x8, same for newer Rangers. It's a Ford/Mazda custom size, and some Nissan's have it to.

Ford uses 6X8's in the rear deck.
