I goofed.
I assumed I could pick up Motorcraft plugs and wires at one of the chains.

I have the oil gasket set, intake set, shims, and tools ness for a decent tune up.

I can't find Motorcraft products anywhere.
Has any one had luck with after market plugs and wires? exell, borg warner.....?

I can't even find autolite. Advance auto, and auto zone claim they are discontinued and offer a cheaper brand.

Any feedback will be helpful.
I wanted to do this this weekend since I am driving from upstate Ny to Hartfor CT next weekend.

Thanks in advance

It is important enough to use the correct parts that I recommend you postpone your service until you can get the Motorcraft plugs and wires. Unless your car is misfiring right now, a trip like that won't cause you any problems. That's only about 325 miles each way and all highway cruising. In Texas or the great southwest, that's a commute. wink

The lowest priced national sources are shown below. There are at least a couple of auto parts chains around here that carry Motorcraft parts. O'Reilly sells the plugs for $3.79 each. You may want to call around to a few other stores.

Spark plugs, 6 required
...Motorcraft AGSP32PP, FordPartsNetwork.com (FPN) $3.99 ea.
Plug wires (120,000 mile intervals)
...3.0L Motorcraft WR-4033, FPN $83.99 (will fit the 3.2L)
Valve cover & plug well seals (120,000 mile intervals)
...Fel-Pro VS50378R, AutoZone.com $71.99 or RockAuto.com $83.98
Intake manifold gaskets, 2 required (needed only if black coating is chipping off)
...Motorcraft E9DZ-9439-A, FordPartsOnline.com $12.14 or FordPartsNetwork.com $12.49
Oxygen sensors, 2 required (recommend replacement with spark plugs)
...3.2L Bosch 15716, AutoZone $40.99 ea.

Thanks.
The car is running good, maybe not as smooth as it should be.

I will wait. I am so damn impatient.
I changed the 02 sensors two days ago because the SHO was running very bad with the CE light going on and off.

That made it run 90% better, so I just want to replace the rest soon.

I turn to the forum for the voice of reason.

Thanks

borg warner makes fords ignition parts.... ie DIS module and such as borg warner is a division of DANA automotive... the Borg Warner wires would probably do just fine .... given you can't get ahold of the motorcraft ones...

as for the plugs... motorcraft motorcraft motorcraft.... advance and autozone are full of it on that statement of discontinued..... to my knowledge (used to work for them) advance doesn't carry motorcraft at all... autozone carries some... however autozone tends to limit what they can get to what is plentiful within there warehouse system...thus if it isn't too common ... it isn't available....

My store has the motorcraft plugs on the shelf... i pay like 3.40 for them..if you want i'll ship you a set for the price of the plugs and shipping

the borg warner wires suck. I have seen them on cars, and they do not look pretty at all. There is barely a seal to the plug well. poor fit, small wire.

I checked out the Borgs today and they are 7mm and the caps look like they won't properly fit in the vavle cover.

I was told by the man to postpone the service, get the right parts, do the job right.

I am having a **** of a time finding these wires in my area. Even the dealerships don't stock them.

I want to avoid online transactions. I am trying to finds a source in my area.

Thanks again for all your help.

No sense in avoiding the online transactions. If someone gets ur credit card number, tell the credit card company and they will fight it for you. No worries....

Your chances of finding someone locally who normally stocks them (and doesn't charge list price) is probably nil. If you don't want to use a CC to buy online, you could order them from FPN over the phone with a CC, or you can also mail them a check/mo. FPN's probably going to give you the best price & service, and Torrie has a strong reputation for lightning fast shipping and great customer service.

The only reason I didn't want to buy online is because i would like to develop a relationship with someone local that will keep some SHO stuff in stock.

I get my vavle cover gasket set online from cincysho.

Who do you guys recomend for online ordering?

I put a set of STANDARD plugs on my 91 MTX from O'reilys and they work great. Good seal around the plug wells and they were an 8mm wire. The performance is jsut as good as the Motorcraft.

The loom should come with a new set of Motorcraft wires if I recall correctly. You will have to find a slightly shorter path to the coil path for a few wires. They do fit though and will save a couple bucks.

Do you have ACME Auto? The one here (Vernon, Ct) is excellent. He got the Motocrap plugs and matched AZ's price, somewhere around 100 clams.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
That's a good recommendation too. You don't want the performance of the plugs and wires falling off long before your next 60K is due. Non OEM plugs and a cheap wire set might run well when new but after 60K miles and probably long before, they will likely be the source of much cursing. My original 13 years old plugs and wires lasted 148,000 miles without any major detectable problems. Yes I noticed a big difference after my 60K and the plug gap had grown to .075". But the performance drop off declined very gracefully over the years and the wires were still able to flow enough juice to fire the plugs smoothly over that nasty big .075" gap (spec is .042")
